Publisher's summary

Ilea likes punching things. And eating.

Unfortunately, there aren’t too many career options for hungry brawlers. Instead, the plan is to quit her crappy fast-food job, go to college, and become a fully functioning member of society. Essentially—a fate worse than death.

So maybe it's lucky that she wakes up one day in a strange world where a bunch of fantasy monsters are trying to kill her?

On the bright side, "killing those monsters right back" is now a viable career path! For she soon discovers her new home runs on a set of game-like rules that will allow her to punch things harder than in her wildest dreams. Well, maybe not her wildest dreams, but it’s close.

With no quest to follow, no guide to show her the way, and no real desire to be a Hero—Ilea embarks on a journey to discover a world full of magic. Magic she can use to fight even bigger monsters.

She’s struggling to survive, has no idea what will happen next, and is loving every minute of it. Except, and sometimes also, when she’s poisoned and/or has set herself on fire. It’s complicated.

Listen to the story that took Royal Road by storm with more than 60 million views and counting.

A fun story told cartoonishly...

The Good:
--Fun LitRPG story.
--The Math and Numbers aren't overwhelming (except for the number of times the word DING and Meters is used)
--The Class system is pretty straight forward and easy to pick up on.
--The MC doesn't get too bogged down in internal monologues (though they do happen)
--Lots of progression - like - a truck load for one book.
--Very long book so you get your money's worth

The Less than Good:
--I am 3 meters away from this, that is 2 meters tall, she threw the rock 34 meters. My god - be general with some of the math or description. I don't need the actual length of something. "She was knocked back a bit" instead of "She was knocked back 1.5 meters".
--The Narrator giggles WAY too much or chuckle talks. It was fun for the first hour - 20 hours in and I'm losing my mind.
--The characters are anime characters. Flat and devoid of actual depth - they have zero care about life or anything at all other than their 1-2 assigned traits which they repeat over and over. NPC likes to eat. Every single conversation is her suggesting they eat or her producing a steak. Its lazy. Its repetitive and it detracts from every character.
--The MC is a shell of what she should be. She curses like a sailor- is brash and roughly acts like a 12 year old boy most of the time which makes the author seem like he is a 12 year old boy.
--The numbers don't work. At the beginning level 100 is awe inspiring. By mid-book level 150 is the norm and by the end of the book people at 200 are ho-hum. What??? That makes no sense at all. If she is around exceptionally high level people then it needs to be written so the reader is made KEENLY aware of this--- not just "She is on an adventure so obviously 200 is the norm..."

Not a healer but a monk

Her class is a classic monk class but is called healer all the time which is misleading

Are you brave enough to follow the path?

How could you go wrong? It's a litRPG, it's available at a reduced price, if you have an Amazon prime membership, and it's got Andrea Parsneau who only knows how to do steller voice performances.
This is the story of Ilea's Awakening. Ilea wakes up to face another crapy day at her crapy job, only to discover that she's no longer in her apartment. But confronted by a forest, still in her pajamas, and with a plethora of monsters in her way as runs to the only shelter she sees, an abandoned shelter, or a temple maybe. Thus begins her path as a Azarinth Fighter Healer, two skills one path! The only way to escape the temple is continue to follow this path. With the help of diaries left by students, she follows what she now figures was seemingly set up by a extinct sect of religious zealots.
So grab the book, like I said you can't go wrong, and follow the path!

fun story

This was really fun listening to the Main character go from 0 to hero. The pacing is a bit fast but to be honest I'd rather this than mc grinding out 5 levels over 8hrs.

highly recommend

Really, surprisingly good

I was not expecting much. Looked like a standard litrpg from a new author — with perhaps a nod to a Sylvester Stallone-type MC subplot. That’s fine. Litrpg isn’t the sort of thing you turn to for literary innovation. Currently the genre has as many fixed conventions as a standard Elizabethan sonnet. You read those for excellence in how the conventions are combined and colored.

In most respects that’s all you’ll find here. So why was I still reading the damn thing at 4:30 am?

As far as I can tell, it’s because the characters were so consistently engaging that I wanted to know more about them. The MC in particular is conventional, but (as others often tell her) a complete mad woman. Still, she’s a nut case of a recognizable, and not completely unrealistic, kind. Some people really react that way to one-on-one conflict etc.

Maybe the book just hit me on a good day. Still, I hope to see some more of those days from this author as soon as possible. Narration is also high quality — save for the annoying “ding!”s mentioned by a previous reviewer. Andrea Parsneau reminds me a bit of Dina Perlman although Parsneau doesn’t quite have Perlman’s amazing tonal range

I love the main characters abilities! So cool! Only downside is waiting for the next audiobook to come out.

Nailed it. Best LitRPG so far!

I am addicted to LitRPG novels and have listened to many on this app. This has to be so far one of my favorites! Only downside is there is only one book out so far. Continuous action with unique growth and plenty of avenues fir the main character to go down. I’m looking forward to how the author ties all the cliffhangers together in hopefully many books to come.

very very pleasantly surprised by this book

I don't write many reviews, but I do have over 300 audiobooks in my library, and complete 2 or 3 books a week, and this was one of the best books I have listened to in a long time. I was actively dreading finishing this book because I was enjoying it so much. I cant wait for anything else done by this author.

Great book

I liked this book. It was great action, great drama, and just the right amount of each thing at the right time. Very excited for the next one.
