Lew Fonesca is a Sarasota part-time process server still mourning his dead wife and trying to get through life without any complications. But his life is full of them. His shrink wants him to dump his grief so he can have more of a life; a pretty social worker who has helped him in the past wants to "deepen" their friendship; and his big heart prevents him from saying no to people who need his help. A distraught father comes to Lew to track down his wife and two kids, whom Lew suspects ran off with the man's best friend. When people start showing up dead, Lew knows he's in way over his head - and this time he may not be able to make it come out okay.©2003 Stuart M. Kaminsky; (P)2003 Books on Tape, Inc. Midnight Pass is the third in the Lew Fonesca series. Lew is a down and out process server living in Sarasota, FL, still trying to move on with life after the tragic hit and run death of his wife in Chicago. In MIdnight Pass he develops a more solid group of friends, continues his psychotherapy, and has a number of near death experiences. The premise of the book is set in fact, but the story line and character development are what makes this book so enjoyable. Lew is surrounded by a group of borderline psycopathic individuals who give the story depth and character. The ending is not really much of a surprise, but there are many twists and turns along the way, making for a great read. Lew Fonesca joins the ranks of such literary heros as Matthew Scudder, Travis McGee, and Gideon "Bud" Lowry.
