The #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Ghost War and The Faithful Spy returns with a novel of international intrigue and catastrophic terrorism that "keeps the reader caring, and guessing, until the end." (Booklist)

For CIA operative John Wells, the underworld has become more real than the real world. He's spent years in the close company of evil men. And he's paid the price in every possible way. Now, he's on the ragged edge of burnout. His nights are plagued by twisted dreams. He's beginning to doubt if he can ever live a normal life.

He is right to think so.

For revenge...

The Silent Man has plenty of action and interesting characters. The main character has appeared in two of the author's previous books, both of which are excellent. The story follows the plot line from the previous book, but this book stands alone quite well. The previous story is explained, without being tedious, in the context of the present, and there will be no problem for the reader who is unfamiliar with this character. Guidall is my favorite narrator for this genre, and he does a fine job with this book. 5 stars!

another hit for berenson

overall a good spy story with John Wells demonstrating some of his exceptional skills however he is not quite as exceptional in this story as in the previous two

Good spy story...a more subdued John Wells

I'm now on the 5th book in Berenson's John Wells series and am enjoying it very much, especially since its now being narrated by the Great George Guidall, one of my favorite storytellers.

Berenson has built Wells backstory nicely in the first 4 novels-I like the way he slowly eases Wells early life into the current time, one little bit at a time.

Each story could stand alone with ease. That they are in a series can occasionally make the series become a bit tedious with the same language and verbiage, however Berenson is an effective enough writer so as to not fall into this trap. And, while there are several people who are in all the books I've read so far, still they haven't become predictable nor have I gotten tired of them-which has occurred in other series books I've read.

I really recommend Alex Berenson's novels-especially those narrated by Guidall. If you enjoy current era spy stories these can't be beat.

Enjoying Alex Berenson!
