The women and his carpenter’s trade and an old Indian known as Flute Player bring Carlisle a sense of contentment for a while. But his quiet is shattered as bulldozer treads begin to turn and the Yerkes County War commences. Run or stand your ground, that is Carlisle’s dilemma, Gally on one side, Susanna on the other.

A story so beautifully woven...

Listening to this book was like getting a wonderful massage - very soothing, sensual with a bit of muscle work added. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters, the nature of the conflict and how it was all tied together. And the reader - excellent!!!

The best 500 mile, road trip book, this summer.

Delightful Waller and follow up to some of the characters derived from/related to The Bridges of Madison County. Great Midwestern tale revolving around too common politics of our time.
