They call him the Devil . . .

He is the most notorious laird of Scotland: fierce, cold, deadly . . . and maybe even worse. Yet Evelinde has just agreed to wed him. Anything, she thinks, is better than her cruel stepmother. Though Evelinde should be wary of the rumors, she can't help but be drawn to this warrior . . . for the Devil of the Highlands inspires a heat within her that is unlike anything she has ever known.

They may call him whatever they wish, but Cullen, Laird of Donnachaidh, cares only for the future of his clan. He must find a wife, a woman to bear him sons and heed his commands. He has no need for beauty or grace, but one taste of his lovely bride's sweet lips and the sultry feel of her skin arouse an untamed passion. Perhaps there's more to marriage than he thought . . .

This story kinda reminded me of some of Julie Garwood highlander books. Which I love, so I was very happy to have discovered it.

Great book.

I have never heard a more horrific narration. It is hard to believe that the director could let this pass. It is almost like it was a deliberate attempt to sabotage the audiobook or the author or Audible itself - that is just how bad it was. Absolutely disgraceful!

The story itself was OK, but I would recommend you buy the book, not the audiobook.

Narrator should find a new profession!

The reader sounded like her high school English teacher had told her to read aloud in class. I won’t call it narration because there is no nuance to distinguish the performance from reading aloud. She handles the dialogue of the two main characters okay, but the descriptive narrative in between is stilted and flows like she is seeing the words for the first time. It made it hard to recognize that the book is actually well crafted and the characters are actually well developed. The writing underneath this horrible reading may in fact be pretty good. I’ll try another book by Lynsey Sands as long as it is not read by Marianna Palka.

Good writing mired in bad reading

For some reason I am on a Lynsay Sands kick of late. While she's not the best writer, she's funny, and tells a lighthearted story that is entertaining and does exactly what it's supposed to do.

I was not enamored of the narrator, she read way to slow at times, and kept using a Scottish accent for the English bride that kind of got a bit confusing. However, she did have a pleasant sounding voice, and when she would talk at a normal speed her pleasant tone worked well as a narrator. I will say it took some getting used to, and perhaps that's not for everyone. The whole reason listeners choose this format is to be swept away by the story telling. Her narration was certainly not one of the worst narrations I have heard and I would listen to a book she narrates again, but will not actively seek her out.

On that note we all hear things differently so what I might dislike in a narrator is not necessarily something another would dislike.

To each their own and we are all sitting on our opinions.

I would suggest trying out this audible if you can over come the narrator, if not, I would still recommend the book in another format to avid romance readers, as it works well as a lighthearted mindless romp.

Fun, and simple
