Magic is dangerous—but love is more dangerous still. Discover the “compulsively readable” (Booklist) first book in the #1 New York Times bestselling Infernal Devices trilogy, prequel to the internationally bestselling Mortal Instruments series! Clockwork Angel is a Shadowhunters novel.

When Tessa Gray crosses the ocean to find her brother, her destination is England, the time is the reign of Queen Victoria, and something terrifying is waiting for her in London's Downworld, where vampires, warlocks, and other supernatural folk stalk the gaslit streets. Only the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the world of demons, keep order amidst the chaos.

Kidnapped by a secret organization called The Pandemonium Club, Tessa learns that she herself is a Downworlder with a rare ability: the power to transform into another person. What’s more, the Magister, the shadowy figure who runs the Club, will stop at nothing to claim Tessa's power for his own.

Friendless and hunted, Tessa takes refuge with the Shadowhunters of the London Institute, who swear to find her brother if she will use her power to help them. She soon finds herself fascinated by—and torn between—two best friends: James, whose fragile beauty hides a deadly secret, and Will, whose caustic wit and volatile moods keep everyone in his life at arm’s length…everyone, that is, but Tessa. As their search draws them deep into the heart of an arcane plot that threatens to destroy the Shadowhunters, Tessa realizes that she may need to choose between saving her brother and helping her new friends save the world…and that love may be the most dangerous magic of all.

Clockwork angels is a book about girl who sails to England after her brother. When she gets there she discovers a world that she did not know existed, a world full of demons warlocks and magic. In her attempts to find her brother she uncovers the secrets about her family and in turn, herself.

I loved this book. It was a little difficult to get into at first but well worth it. The characters were well developed and engaging. The main character was strong and funny, but not overly sassy, and it was a pleasure to see how she developed. The narrator was a credit to this book and language itself was absolutely lovely. The target age is about 14-22 I???m 17 so I cannot say whether older audiences will like it, but I would still say to give it a try. This book has action, mystery, and a touch of romance; it is truly an excellent read.
My only complaint is that I have to what a whole year for the sequel.

An excellent read

What does Jennifer Ehle bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The story really comes alive & I feel like I can never get enough. I'll be so sad when this series is over. He accents and character voices are wonderful and very distinguishable.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I am a fan of the Immortal Instruments series and was not disappointed with this book. I gave it 4 stars because the start was a bit slow. I can't wait until the next book. Good narration.

Enjoyed this book. It was a slow start, as stated by many other audible reviews, but once it gets going (1/2 way through) it picks up pace & gets exciting. It's not that slow is bad or boring, it wasn't. Just a slower pace than say The Mortal Instruments series.

Reader did a wonderful job on making each character voice unique.

Slow start but a great story

I really love this book series and author, but was very disappointed by the reader. She had no real inflection, barely did accents and you couldn't tell who was speaking half the time. She also sounded like she had cotton in her mouth or something... I could barely understand her and had to slow down the track. Will be lucky if I finish the ebook in the car, which sucks because I've read the other series myself and loved them!

Meh
