From the New York Times bestselling author of Speaking in Bones, the first Temperance Brennan novel in the “cleverly plotted and expertly maintained series” (The New York Times Book Review).

Her life is devoted to justice—even for those she never knew.

In the year since Temperance Brennan left behind a shaky marriage in North Carolina, work has often preempted her weekend plans to explore Quebec. When a female corpse is discovered meticulously dismembered and stashed in trash bags, Temperance detects an alarming pattern—and she plunges into a harrowing search for a killer. But her investigation is about to place those closest to her—her best friend and her own daughter—in mortal danger…

“A genius at building suspense” (Daily News, New York), Kathy Reichs’s Temperance Brennan books are ripe with intricate settings and memorable characters” (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel).

I rarely choose a book because of the reader but in the case of Barbara Rosenblat, I sometimes look her name up and see what she is reading and if it is something I am interested in or in the genre that I have an interest I will order it just because she is reading it. I sometimes think that if she read a phone book aloud, she would make it interesting and hold the attention of the audience. Kathy Reichs is a wonderful author. I have only ordered one other book by her because of limited finances but in the future when I have another job, I will be ordering the Temperance Brennan series. Thank you once again, Audible people for a wonderful several days of entertainment.

Excellent story, excellent narrator.

The performance is so awful!! You can hear the woman eating and sucking on mints or ice the whole time. Also it has a constant feedback of hiss and the story doesn’t hold up to time.
TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE

Avoid at all costs!!

This is a pretty cut and dry detective story and mystery. Those of us who have come to love the Temperance Brennan from the television series won't find her here, however. There's little resemblance to the quirky, rational forensic anthropologist we see on television and the character as she was originally penned. The Tempe from the novel is a divorced recovering alcoholic with a grown daughter when we meet her, and while she's a likeable enough protege, I was really hoping for the internal monologues of the character from the TV series, and it's simply a different person.

Fans of "Bones" might be disappointed

This is a really great book by one of my favorite authors but I suggest you just read it unless you can handle a narrator smacking and chewing in your ear for almost 12 hours. Her voice is fine but she seems to be sucking on candy, eating or chewing gum throughout the reading. It drove me nuts and makes me upset that I used this months credit for it.

A great book by a great author but...

Loved the way this was told. The writing was great. Brought character to life as both a professional good at her job, dealing with real world coworker kind of issues, and personal life issues without dwelling too much on any - just enough to make the story fully dimensional. I LOVED the narration. Felt as if the character was actually talking to us - as a real person - not a voice over for television ads. Highly recommend- although be aware there are a few gory details if that’s not your thing.

Great story telling - both by author & narrator
