The Blitz continued to rain down on the shell and morale of the nation’s defences. In the cold grey waters of the North Atlantic, wolfpacks of enemy U boats hunted down with ruthless efficiency the supply lines that could keep Britain in the war. Through the year, the enemy produced many of their grandest victories, but Britain was able to stabilise its position in the Middle East although setbacks at the hands of the newly arrived Rommel, the Desert Fox, were encountered in North Africa. But 1941 was to prove strategically decisive; with Hitler’s campaign in the Balkans, vital time was lost to the Wehrmacht for an attack on its former ally Russia. When the 150 divisions hurled themselves forward in June many knew that the long Russian winter would grind the enemy to a standstill before they could reach the safety of their objective cities.

In December the third member of 'The Grand Alliance' stepped from the background with the infamous attack of Pearl Harbour. Now Churchill knew in his heart that ultimate victory surely lay with Britain, the United States, and Russia, but the continuing pain, sacrifice, and toll of blood and machine were still to be borne. The overview is read by Winston S Churchill, MP, and the volume narrated by Michael Jayston.

If you are a history buff, THIS is the book for you!! Detail oriented yet fast paced. The reader’s voice and inflections are *indistinguishable* from the great man himself; as is demonstrated by the historical recordings of portions of his speeches included in this rendition. The sound effects are exquisitely applied and are infinitely appropriate to the narrative. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this audio book!!

A thrilling read. One filled with the actual costs of keeping our nations' democracy. Courage, sacrifice and determination is experienced in this audible tome. A distinguished orator, Churchill never lied to his people, yet helped them make them determined to prevail.

He lauds those that became Britain's allies, the King, parliament and citizenry. He chose leaders that criticized him as well as his supporters to stratigize Britain's war.

This six volume account is breathtaking, glorious and revealing. How fortunate we are to have had Winston Churchill as the free world's leader!

Narration makes it sound like Churchill doing the talking, enjoyable. The details about relationship building with the American was interesting. The descriptions of the conflict as it progress I found,

clearly described and engrossing. Story has a good pace and no slow sections.

Best in the series so far.

There is only one Winston Churchill. What more can I say? I've done my best to read most of his written works. His command of rhetoric and storytelling is evident here and the narrator couldn't have succeeded any better in sounding like the real Churchill (sand lisp, thankfully).

Just one complaint: background music rarely makes a book better, and often quite a bit worse.

No one can reach the levels of command of the powers of the English Language as can Winston Churchill.
