In his five bestselling novels, from The Sisterhood to Natural Causes, physician Michael Palmer has drawn on years of firsthand emergency-room experience to create the drama of a frighteningly authentic world—a world where the line between medicine and murder is scalpel-thin. Now, in his most harrowing suspense novel yet, Palmer reveals how the power to heal can become a license to kill. …

With his wife, Evie, scheduled for surgery the next day, Dr. Harry Corbett goes to the hospital for what he hopes will be a quiet evening of reconciliation. In recent weeks Evie, never quick to share her feelings, has been more closed and distant than ever.

But when Harry reaches Evie’s room, it is too late for reconciliation. Shockingly, without warning, Evie is dead. The police suspect homicide. And their only suspect is Dr. Harry Corbett.

Harry is not prepared for the stunning revelations that follow: His bright, beautiful, highly ambitious wife was leading a double life; she may have had dangerous secrets. But what secret could have been explosive enough to die for?

Then the killer strikes again, boldly, tauntingly murdering one of Harry’s favorite patients in such a way that only Harry knows the death was not natural. This time Harry is certain: The killer, medically sophisticated, coolly arrogant, moving undetected through a busy urban hospital, could only be a doctor. And he wonders—how many more will die?

Desperately Harry probes deeper, following the only clue Evie left. What he finds is a sinister pattern that threatens patients in every hospital in the city. Harry is engaged in a life-and-death battle of wits with a chillingly efficient monster. And until the doctor is unmasked, no patient is safe from his lethal silent treatment.

Michael Palmer has done it again, delivering a no-holds-barred novel of medical intrigue—a gripping thriller that features the most terrifying physician since Hannibal Lecter. Silent Treatment will keep your pulse racing from beginning to end.

Would you listen to Silent Treatment again? Why?

Excellent character development, and an first rate understanding of the "business of the healthcare industrial complex" bone chillingly gripping and real. It will be in my vacation selection when I "read" my favorites.

Have you listened to any of George Guidall’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Mr. Guidall has an excellent range and convincingly portrays a wide variety of characters.

I loved the characters of the story and their responses to the different situations they encountered. They were real, yet entertaining, and the plot kept me enthralled.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The plot definitely kept me in there; I couldn't wait to hear the next chapter. I enjoyed the technical aspects of the storylines, which were spot on, and I appreciated the interaction of the characters, which kept me rooting for them.

This was my first time with George Guidall. I'll look for more by him.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No extreme responses were felt other than a great big sense of relief when things worked out and flashes of adrenaline when they didn't. But......those are good responses!

Any additional comments?

I'll read more of Mr. Palmer's books and listen to more of the narrator. They both did a fine job.

Great medical thriller

The story, "Silent Treatment", started out a tiny bit slow but then it sped up and was totally captivating. The characters seem real and there was so much going on that I couldn't put it down. But, alas, sometimes I had to. I couldn't wait until the next chapter to find out what happened to the character I had just read about. I loved it. #Mindbending #Suspenseful #Exciting #somesad #tagsgiving #sweepstake

What made the experience of listening to Silent Treatment the most enjoyable?

This was well written. Suspense from start to finish. I also enjoyed the possibility of the plot...and 'villians'. I think that made it even more plausible...to think, this could happen. May already be happening in our insurance world.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Silent Treatment?

Moved naturally. Most memorable?

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Yes, if my friend is interested in a light and easy to read and understand novel.

What about George Guidall’s performance did you like?

He is a great narrator and can make most any book a good listen.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No

Any additional comments?

I'm used to reading mysteries/thrillers that have more depth. Characters are superficial, they have no intrigue. Mystery is too easy to solve. There is no action, no edge of the seat excitement. Dull but readable.
