After winning the war for independence from Great Britain, the 13 American colonies became the 13 States of America. They adopted the Articles of Confederation as their system of government. However, the Articles proved to be ineffective, and only a few short years after gaining its independence, the young country was headed for fracture and failure.

In the summer of 1787, 12 of the states (Rhode Island excepted) sent delegates to Philadelphia in a last-ditch effort to fix the Articles. But it soon became clear that the problems facing the young country were too great for the Articles of Confederation to address, even in an amended form. Thus, the delegates created a new Constitution, one that brilliantly established an entirely new (and daring) form of republican government. A government of enumerated and separated powers. A government that is truly of the People, by the People, and for the People.

"We the People of the United States..." So begins our Constitution.

I'm so glad to have someone read this to me over and over again. Without an understanding of the governing words of the constitution, this union will fail. We should all have this as the new pocket constitution.

Like the Bible, these words should be remembered.

Something every American citizen must read or listen to! Good narrator easy to listen to

100% the reading of the US Constitution

The narrator's clear diction and pacing made listening to the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution much easier than trying to read it myself. Even though I took a civics class in high school, I learned very little. I retained even less. I listened to the entire performance on Independence Day, and plan on doing this annually. I honestly intend to listen to it bit by bit until I really understand the entire document. This is why audiobooks are so important: because hearing these documents read aloud, makes it so much easier to absorb than trying to read it on my own. I would give this 10 stars if I could.

Every American Needs to Listen to This Regularly!
