In his daring and chilling first novel, #1 New York Times bestselling author Brad Thor draws us into a sinister labyrinth of political intrigue and international terrorism, serving up an explosive cocktail of unrelenting action as one man is pushed to the edge.

On the snow-covered slopes of Utah, the President of the United States has been kidnapped and his Secret Service detail massacred. Only one agent has survived—ex-Navy SEAL Scot Harvath. He doesn’t buy the official line that Middle Eastern terrorists are behind the attack and begins his own campaign to find the truth and exact revenge. But now, framed for murder by a sinister cabal, Harvath takes his fight to the towering mountains of Switzerland—and joins forces with beautiful Claudia Mueller of the Swiss Federal Attorney’s Office. Together they must brave the subzero temperatures and sheer heights of treacherous Mount Pilatus—where their only chance for survival lies inside the den of the most lethal team of professional killers the world has ever known…

Armand Schultz does a nice job with a poorly written book. I have read every book in the Scott Harvath series, but they don't come close to Mitch Rapp series or Tom Clancy's work. I read these when I can't find anything else for this genre. The Harvath series is like a blunt instrument, while the others are precision instruments. That said, I still read them. Among the Harvath series, this is the weakest. In fairness to Thor, the character was still being developed, and I don't think he was totally clear where he was going to take it. If you love this genre like I do, read it after you have exhausted everything else (including the other Harvath books). While I prefer to read stories in order, this one is pretty lame.

Not a Great Book - Clearly First in Series

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If you like special forces action novels with lots of twists and turns this is a great series to follow. I began with some of Brad Thor's later books and was so impressed I had to go back to what started his primary character development and dig in.

What did you like best about this story?

The conclusion was more than a soft ending

Have you listened to any of Armand Schultz’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes and I must say I look for things he has read as a must read. His talent of understanding the character and switching rapidly to their voice and speed of speech is remarkable. A very gifted actor. Brad would be nuts not to have him be the offical voice for all list books.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No crying but several smiles and a few damn that must hurt deep reactions.

Any additional comments?

I I have listened to 8 of Brad's books and will continue to download more when I have time

In the Begining

Narration is as good across the series. However, the book really struggles with tech. Not even up to par at the time of writing, such "irony" a lot of "gut" and even more just cliché crap. Extremely hard to take seriously, especially with the newer books by Thor that are far better written.

Wow... Such a dated book even at the time

This novel is a good beach read. Or perhaps I should say a good quick read in front of the fireplace at Deer Valley after a day’s skiing. Of course, it DOES contain the obligatory evil American capitalist and this made me contemplate downgrading my review. (Are ALL writers socialists?) If you are going to make a plot element an evil capitalist, couldn’t you at least make him a Russian? (Russian capitalists want to protect their petroleum empires, too.) You will not be taxed listening to or following the story of this book, nor particularly regret purchasing it.

Best narrator I've heard yet. Also, being a huge Mitch Rapp and Pike Logan fan I'm extremely glad I came across Brad Thor and his series of books.
