Before the world was born, there was the Dust of Eden - blood-red earth from which all else was created. The last deposit of the mysterious dust became a viciously guarded secret...until the site was disturbed. A bit of Eden found its way into the hands of Ariel Leppa - an embittered elderly woman unaware of its ferocious power...for a time.

Critic reviews

"One is convinced that an outsize performer is trying his wings - a John Barth or a John Irving, with a touch of William Gaddis and maybe a dash of Kurt Vonnegut, Jr." ( The Chicago Tribune)
"Thomas Sullivan is a master of description." (William X. Kienzle, author of the Father Koesler mystery series)
"A memorable journey...compelling read. Classic Sullivan."(Fred Bean, author of Eden)

An inventive premise with existential and religious allusions creating a microcosm of creation fist and second to that it all going wrong with shades of horror. The abstract details are near hallucinatory but aside from being a vehicle for rhetoric the premise is inelegant. Eventually the pacing slows and rather than well evolving the cool idea it simmers a bit long infusing hints of menace and philosphy but stalling. The focus is more on an unusual inhabitants of a sort of elder home. It has some clever ideas but delivers them eventually in too concrete a manner for the otherwise anything goes seeming premise. The attempt to keep a human lens on the near metaphysical is noble but dulls things a bit much. I'd be down down a sequel or a rehash with a bit more pacing and horror but didn't care much about the characters.
