Take a bite out of the newest Vampire Files!
A delicious new novel of the The Vampire files - in which our undead detective finds himself caught in the middle of a Chicago gangland war!

Fleming had a good "inside story" trying to handle the hoodlums without becoming like them. There were some pieces of the mystery i couldn't fit together till the end, but the answer made prefect sense.
It feels like the author has cleared the slate for new adventures and I'm here for it. (I recently listened to the first in a new series by Elrod and it was more to my taste with very solid prose, giving me high expectations fur the remainder of this one.)

What did you love best about A Chill in the Blood?
I remember reading these books when I was a teenager. It was a gritty mix of supernatural action and organized crime from the 20s. I loved them so much and then, they just stopped at book 6. A few days ago I was trolling for new books and saw this and I literally yelped in joy! I immediately ordered up enough credits to purchase all of the books through 12 and set to listening. So what did I love best about the book? PN Elrod's take on the 20s and vampires has always been the best thing for me. The fact that I have been waiting for 25 years for this, just icing on the cake and worth the wait! What did you like best about this story?
So many things to choose from, gangsters, tommy guns, dirty money, convoluted plots, and yes, vampires. What does Johnny Heller bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
He really brings the cadence of the speech for the time. When I listen to him I feel like I am listening to someone from the 1920's telling me a story.Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No laughing or crying, but I sure gave a few fist pumps when Jack saved Shoe's butt.Any additional comments?
PN Elrod, if you are out there...Thanks for bringing back Jack!!!I just found this and Wow, Jack is back

I think that this series has greatly improved the genre that is vampire urban fantasy. With upstart authors or wanna be authors pumping out vampire novel trash like House of Night, Chicago land vampires, and Vampire Academy it is enough for you to give up completely on the genre all together. Finally there is the Vampire Files to sneak in and show us that there is hope for the genre. Romance takes a passenger if not back seat to the plot which is refreshing . It won't be in the top three urban fantasy books you've ever read but should be in the top ten.I love this series.
