On a remote training planet, hotshot Earth Defense Fleet Cadet Ryan Thompson and his peace loving ex-girlfriend Amanda Williamson can't agree on anything. But when news comes of an alien invasion of Earth - the first in human history - they are thrown together on a deadly, unauthorized mission to face an unknown enemy. What they find is beyond their wildest expectations. A discovery that changes everything they thought they knew...about their hostile adversaries - and mankind.

With a trail of riddles and mysteries, epic space battles and journeys to the far corners of Earth, this "Star Trek meets Indiana Jones" sci-fi adventure from author Edward Miller should appeal to fans of sci-fi space operas and young adult science fiction.

Because he was afraid he'd lose credibility in his real job as a scientist. In all those years I have never come across a story quite this bad. One expects a certain amount of due diligence in an author. Not every author is a scientist or a military veteran, but particularly now in the Internet age. One can at least do a little research or at least do basic math. A space battle fought at ranges of 20,000 FEET and 5,000 FEET with weapons officers counting the seconds down as the torpedos are running to the target? Give us a break. Today's fighter jets engage from much farther standoff distances with missiles that - even impeded by the friction of the atmosphere - quickly reach Mach 3.5. At 2000 mph a missile would travel 5000 feet in less than two seconds even if the target was at rest with respect to the attacker and not approaching at an appreciable rate. This whole story was like an incredible parody, as corny, trite, and factually at odds with science and the military as anyone could imagine. I've often stopped reading far better stories than this, but I saw this one through to the end because it was like a slow motion train wreck, you just can't believe it's as bad as it is, even while you watch it (or in this case listen to it).

I've bought a lot of audible books over the years. Most were enjoyable. This was simply a freak show. You couldn't believe anyone would write something quite this bad.

I have been reading SCI-FI since Asimov published as Paul French

Boring storyline, unimaginative dialog and preposterous voice performances. I couldn’t finish the book in the car (rather sit in silence) and my wife laughed out loud when I had her listen to the voices. Absurd.

“Young” adult must mean 8-10 yrs old
