Nikki Heat and Jameson Rook race to stop a deadly threat from Heat's past as well as an all-too-present serial killer, in Richard Castle's follow-up to the New York Times best-seller Frozen Heat.

Determined to find justice for her mother, top NYPD Homicide Detective Nikki Heat continues to pursue the elusive former CIA station chief who ordered her execution more than a decade ago. For the hunt, Nikki teams once again with her romantic partner, Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist Jameson Rook, and their quest for the old spy and the motive behind the past murder unearths an alarming terror plot, which is anything but ancient history. It is lethal. It is now. And it has already entered its countdown phase.

Complicating Heat's mission to bring the rogue spy to justice and thwart the looming terror event, a serial killer begins menacing the Twentieth Precinct, and her homicide squad is under pressure to stop him, and soon. Known for his chilling stealth, the diabolical murderer not only singles out Nikki as the exclusive recipient of his taunting messages, he names her as his next victim.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Yes but annoyed by the ridiculous advertisements in the story. Every time a product description popped up, it was so blatant it pulled me from the story.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Nikki Heat. Strong woman but starting to dislike Rook a bit.

Which character – as performed by Robert Petkoff – was your favorite?

Nikki. Good narrator.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Would there be ridiculous product ads filing the screen?

Any additional comments?

I paid for the book, not a weird description of Nikki eating a peanut butter cup for no reason. If it's sponsored by ads, it should be free.

Too many product commercials

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I really enjoy the humor in this series. I also like the fact that it keeps you on your toes and is not something that is easy to figure out.

Love the humor.

What did you love best about Deadly Heat?

Its a good book in a great series

Who was your favorite character and why?

Probably rook. He's like a 5 year seeing everything through a childs eye.

Would you be willing to try another one of Robert Petkoff’s performances?

Not really

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes

Any additional comments?

Wish you would have brought back Heller for the other books

Don't understand why they changed narrators

This was my second time around listening to this book. I picked up on more of the story this time. The one drawback for me was the narration. The narrator did not have enough separation between character voices in my opinion. As a result, many of the characters sounded the same therefore, it was hard for me to visualize individual characters.

Another knock out for Castle
