A Being(s) in Love Story

Arthur MacArthur needs a job, and not just for the money. Before he dropped out of school to support his younger sister, he loved being a research assistant at the university. But working for a dragon, one of the rarest and least understood magical beings, has unforeseen complications. While Arthur may be the only applicant who isn’t afraid of Philbert Jones in his dragon form, the instant attraction he feels for his new employer is beyond disconcerting.

Bertie is a brilliant historian, but he can’t find his own notes without help - his house is a hoard of books and antiques, hence the need for an assistant. Setting the mess right is a dream come true for Arthur, who once aspired to be an archivist. But making sense of Bertie’s interest in him is another matter. After all, dragons collect treasure, and Arthur is anything but extraordinary.

As a history major this story has a special place in my heart. I feel Arthur's pain at not being able to finish his degree. And I feel his horror at Bertie's mess of a library - especially Roman artifacts in the downstairs bathroom??!! I get how Arthur might want to smack that Dragon on his nose. This book makes me want to dust my bookshelves. Like every time I get lazy I should go back to this book. To be honest, I listened to it while dusting and it was very inspiring. Audiobooks are necessary if you want me to stop reading physical books and get dinner made and the chores done.

I love Bertie and Arthur and I advise you to read (or listen) the rest of the books in the series to learn more about what happens to them, I promise it's adorable.

I just wish the narrator was a bit better. Maybe it was just me and it didn't match what was in my head. That is the curse of listening to a book or watching the movie after you have read the book. Bertie has a different sound in my head.

Nobody can resist Arthur

A Boy and His Dragon was the first R Cooper book I read. Iit on my KU app and simply had to get it.. In the twelve years I've owned it, I must have re-read it a dozen times. The story is so sweet. Arthur is so brave. And the way Bertie drawled out "Arrrrttthhurrr," just tickled my funny bone. I have to say, Guy Veryzer certainly nailed the drawl . Never going to be able to read it again without hearing Guy's narration in my head.
Arthur is an adorable nerd, so intelligent, obsessed with order. As soon as he walks into Bertie's home, he's found his heaven. Books everywhere. Many under several layers of dust. Bertie's publisher insists he get a a research assistant. And Arthur is there only a half a day before he begins to call him "Pet" and promises he can do whatever he likes.
Bertie Flirts, Arthur ignores it, Or tries to. Bertie's pursuit of Arthur never fails to make me smile. Because Arthur is completely oblivious. He assumes the courting is just another difference between humans and Beings.
Very much a fun read. And the experience was only enhanced by Guy's narration.

Arrrrthurrrrrr

I enjoyed the story itself very much but the purposeful slow way the narrator read made it really had to get into.

I love all the books in this series. This is a fine one to start on as it stands alone. MLM Romance with supernatural elements is a lot of fun and this is a gentle low stakes story with a happy ending. The narrator is not my favorite, but he is better if you run it a little bit fast.
I think I went with 1.4 speed. these characters reoccur in The Firebird and other stories (final story in collection), A Dandelion for Tulip(minor), Sweet Clematis(minor but more than in dandelion), and the Tales of Two Seers (AU story)
