I agree with another reviewer who stated that you can tell this is an older work of Nora Roberts. It's definitely not her best, but it was entertaining. In this day in age, it's pretty cliche, but if you know the author's other, more well rounded work, it's easy to forgive.

Fun, light

A fun, light listen. Made me smile. Performance was good. Predictable, but sometimes that is comfortable .

Sweet, but why the manhandling?

This early Nora entry is sensitively observed, especially in its portrait of a little boy longing for a father. But the plot runs out of steam long before a final “complication” that would make even Hallmark writers gag. Still, the ending is worth the wait, What bothered me more was something you find in many of Nora’s first books: her hero is constantly putting his hands under the chin, on the cheeks and through the hair of a woman he hardly knows. My wonderful wife finds this incredibly sexist. Do most women fantasize about being handled that way?

Would you consider the audio edition of Local Hero to be better than the print version?

yes, as you may miss the small inflections of humor if you are a very fast reader.

What did you like best about this story?

Our young man's great outlook on life, his understanding he doesn't have a dad, and most of all his love and respect for his single mother. It doesn't get better than this to give you a bright smile and a warm glow in your heart.

What aspect of Cassandra Campbell’s performance would you have changed?

I have listened to her with MacLoud Andrews and they are good together. She has a good range, but needs to learn to deepen her male voices and she would be good to go. This is one of her short comings. Her young voices are good.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

So many parts make you light up, Tasz's scenes, Kay's "lunch break" save the day, and most of all Radely's great zest for life!

Ms Roberts can really write great stories with young people in them. This is one of her many gifts in writing. No wonder people continue to buy her books, especially her original short romance classics. See her MacGregor series, yum
