The Islamic State, known as ISIS, exploded into the public eye in 2014 with startling speed and shocking brutality. It has captured the imagination of the global jihadist movement, attracting recruits in unprecedented numbers and wreaking bloody destruction with a sadistic glee that has alienated even the hardcore terrorists of its parent organization, al Qaeda.

Jessica Stern and J.M. Berger, two of America’s leading experts on terrorism, dissect the new model for violent extremism that ISIS has leveraged into an empire of death in Iraq and Syria, and an international network that is rapidly expanding in the Middle East, North Africa and around the world.

ISIS: The State of Terror traces the ideological innovations that the group deploys to recruit unprecedented numbers of Westerners, the composition of its infamous snuff videos, and the technological tools it exploits on social media to broadcast its atrocities, and its recruiting pitch to the world, including its success at attracting thousands of Western adherents. The authors examine ISIS’s predatory abuse of women and children and its use of horror to manipulate world leaders and its own adherents as it builds its twisted society. The authors offer a much-needed perspective on how world leaders should prioritize and respond to ISIS’s deliberate and insidious provocations.

What did you like best about ISIS: The State of Terror? What did you like least?

The confirmation of what we've heard reported to us about the who, what, when, where, how about ISIS. It seemed to get lost the fact that these cowards always want to use armed force on unarmed people and call that terror. It's not terror, it's cowardace at it's best.

Would you recommend ISIS: The State of Terror to your friends? Why or why not?

I don't know, there wasn't anything earth shattering in the book that most people don't know already if you pay attention to the news.

Did Ray Porter do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Kinda,

Did ISIS: The State of Terror inspire you to do anything?

Inspire me to do anything? I'm already a Gulf War Vet, and I long before this book came out had to resist the urge to re-enlist to go fight these crazy people some more.

Any additional comments?

I wish the people that wrote this book, the news media, and all these scholar's would adjust their stance just alittle bit and let's work on turning the tables on all these crazy Islam people by reporting the fact's. When we capture one of their cowards, we feed them, cloth them, let them follow their religion, etc. God forbid if we make them wear funny clothes, or take funny pictures of them or don't let them get enough sleep or pray to mecca on time. However when they capture one of our soldiers/citizens they rape them, torture them and yes wait for it BEHEAD them.

We need to do better in the media about this crazy difference. Our supposedly scholars need to get a grip and correctly identify this and address it instead of giving in to them. This non-sense of "wack-a-mole" and "splintering from over whelming force" bull.

We need to hunt these coward killer's down and address them. We need to make all Islam people accountable! Period. You don't hear of any other religion beheading "non-believers" at all. And this crap about the "Crusades" ya right do your homework who were the Christian's fighting and why?? Yep you guessed it radical Islam......

ISIS = COWARDS!

Some valuable insights and well written, but a little bit of a Brookings institution bent.
So it's just ok by me, nothing too exciting

Responsible citizens will want to read this brilliant book in order to understand what's going on in the Muslim world and how the West should be responding.

A Must-Read book

loved it. I've had to listen to it a few more times, and each time I pick up something new.

The objectivity of the writer is a bit refreshing
