Wilhelm Weischedel (1905-1975) ist vor allem durch "Die philosophische Hintertreppe" (1966), einer allgemeinverständlichen, aber kenntnisreichen Einführung in sein Fachgebiet bekannt geworden. Der glänzende Vermittler war jedoch auch ein eigenständiger Denker, der eine Spielart der Existenzphilosophie begründet hat. Weischedel promovierte bei Heidegger und lehrte später in Tübingen und Berlin. Auch in Zeiten des Nationalsozialismus hat er sich eine makellose Biografie bewahrt: Aus politischen Gründen blieb ihm eine Lehrtätigkeit verwehrt, das Kriegsende hat er als Mithelfer der französischen Résistance erlebt.
