Anna Marshal is regent of the kingdom of Defalk only a few months after a sorcerer pulled her from her boring life as a music teacher in Ames, Iowa, to the world of Erde. With her ability and her integrity, she saved Defalk from invasion and became its regent; now she must defend it against the greedy rulers of neighboring kingdoms who see a weakened state and a possible opportunity.

I love the story and world. The main character is a bit whinny and swears sometimes but the plot more than makes up for it.

Great story

No real surprises here, then again, it would be pretty severe plot manipulation for it to have gone any other way. Obviously awaiting the next book, The young, evil sorcerer in brown still needs killin'.

Storyline pretty much as expected.

I have come to expect great stories from this amazing author. He has never let me down. His ability to draw you into his worlds is extraordinary. Thank the Lord for authors like this.

Another Fantastic Modesitt Novel

The story kicks along as Sorceress Anna goes on a Road trip. While she doesn’t like doing it she fries scores of opposing armsmen to ash & burns a few towns. The utter finality of the destruction is immense. Usually in war, some people live. I might try one more installment to see if the scale of devastation slacks off or not. I like the rebuilding & hope to see more bridges & fewer charred corpses. I could also stand to have mucous be less of a feature.

Narration: Again, a quality narration.

Only just this side of Genocide

I really liked the attention to detail and sounds and scents. Anna needed to stop feeling guilty for what was neccessary

love this story. Especially today.
