Finding and identifying a pirate ship is the hardest thing to do under the sea. But two men—John Chatterton and John Mattera—are willing to risk everything to find the Golden Fleece, the ship of the infamous pirate Joseph Bannister. At large during the Golden Age of Piracy in the seventeenth century, Bannister should have been immortalized in the lore of the sea—his exploits more notorious than Blackbeard’s, more daring than Kidd’s. But his story, and his ship, have been lost to time. If Chatterton and Mattera succeed, they will make history—it will be just the second time ever that a pirate ship has been discovered and positively identified. Soon, however, they realize that cutting-edge technology and a willingness to lose everything aren’t enough to track down Bannister’s ship. They must travel the globe in search of historic documents and accounts of the great pirate’s exploits, face down dangerous rivals, battle the tides of nations and governments and experts. But it’s only when they learn to think and act like pirates—like Bannister—that they become able to go where no pirate hunters have gone before.
Fast-paced and filled with suspense, fascinating characters, history, and adventure, Pirate Hunters is an unputdownable story that goes deep to discover truths and souls long believed lost.

If you could sum up Pirate Hunters in three words, what would they be?
Compelling, adventurous & fascinating.Any additional comments?
I listened to this one after "Shadow Divers", which was also fascinating, but Ray Porter's excellent narration just puts this one over the top for me.So good from start to finish! Loved this reading!

The ideal listen if you're vacationing in the Caribbean or sitting on the beach of your local lake or river..."Pirate Hunters" gives the listener a basic background on the world of Pirates, their ships and booty. It then brings us into the modern world of the brave and sometimes foolish men who search for real sunken treasure via expensive equipment and research.
So interesting and educational...well worth your credit even if you don't usually enjoy non fiction.
Reads like a great mystery-but it's true!

I am a huge fan of historical fiction - but not usually into nonfiction at all (except for self dev or business books) - also prefer the sciences to history any day. This was a big change for me and I was drawn to it because of the promise of pirate treasure - and who wouldn't be!
I never knew or understood the realities of the diving world - even living very close to the Atlantic. Also didn't understand the connection between history and diving - and the pull that drove these explorers on and on.....science and technology can only help so much - their tenacity, research and puzzling this through was what made this book so engaging.
There were parts that were laugh out loud funny and other times when I hated to turn off the car or listened even on short trips to the store - to find out what had happened.
This book delivers - and I highly recommend!
Riveting!
