The master of adventure, Edgar Rice Burroughs, tackles the Frankenstein myth. A demented scientist discovers how to create human life - not perfect but improving steadily with each attempt. He is forced to flee to remote Borneo to continue his gruesome experiments; each experiment becomes one of the Monster Men. Add a beautiful young daughter, a scheming criminal as assistant, head hunters, and wild jungle terrain, and you have The Monster Men!

This book was very obviously inspired in no small way by the classic Frankenstein. But Frankenstein as seen through the eyes of the creator of Tarzan, Pellucidar, Barsoom and so much more. Quite entertaining in its own way, it does slightly suffer for that derivative "feel". Also working against it is the painfully stereotypical character of Sing. (It really was a different time when this was written). If you can get past that, the book is very enjoyable.
