Publisher's summary

ThePhilosophy of Andy Warhol, first published in 1975, is less a memoir than a collection of riffs and reflections. The private Andy Warhol talks about love, sex, food, beauty, fame, work, money, success, New York, and America. And he talks about himself - his childhood in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, good times and bad times in New York, the explosion of his career in the '60s, and his life among celebrities.

If you love Andy...

Then you will love this book. Narrator was fantastic with separate, distinct voices. It's entertaining and thought provoking. Even when it gets dry and monotonous, it serves a point.

This bag of chips is mostly air.

I was looking to learn more about Andy Warhol as I'm really only familiar with his most popular works.

Unfortunately this book is just loose ramblings and conversations about Andy's feelings on topics like sex, leftovers, and underwear shopping.

If I'd first read it as a teenager I probably would've loved it and even highlighted quotes I could repeat to my friends to sound eccentric and artsy.

However listening to it for the first time as an adult I found it annoying.

If you're a super Warhol fan, you might enjoy it.
I'll be looking for a "warts and all" biography written well after he died by someone not connected to his creative circle.

A journey into the neurotic excessively compulsive

I loved learning who Andy Warhol really was and learned a lot about myself in the process. I was both enthralled and bored at the same time and before I could make up my mind, which it was, I had to take a pee, and then forgot about it. The narrator was like a voice in my brain and if I could tip him, I’d give him every coin in my pocket. Presuming they hadn’t wore a hole there allowing the coins to run down my pant leg like undesirable body fluids. I don’t like to tip but if a narrator gives me a tip, I would take it to the bank.

Fell in love with Andy

Loved this book and hearing Andy’s thoughts. He was such an amazing observer of the world. I really fell in love with him through this audiobook. Only downside was that the conversations with the B’s at the end was a bit too long. But, I highly recommend!

Andy Warhol’s hot takes

I am so devastated this book is over
The only part I didn’t like is B’s really long monologue on the phone near the end

Loved every minute!

Such an enjoyable trip into A’s world, I absolutely adore this book, the narration, and the lighthearted overall tone was super uplifting and silly, and sweet. Well worth the credit!

One of my favorite audiobooks (and a great sleep aid)

This is not at all a narrative. And it is best read as an audiobook, in my opinion.
I adore this book. He reveals himself in a guarded way, and you have to read between the lines. Andy Warhol was a very vulnerable person, and it shows here. He was also a genius. That also shows here.
The narrator is incredible. He deserves an award for his work here. Really top-notch.
I also want to recommend this very highly for those looking for an audiobook to help them sleep. There’s no plot, and the narrator has a hypnotic voice that just lulls you into a trance. My partner and I have both fallen asleep to this innumerable times, and it’s great to wake up and hear lines you haven’t heard before!
Also: as someone who grew up in NYC, the chapter where he just recites all the various scents of New York makes my heart ache. Sometimes I cry. It’s a time and place that is so specific, so special, and you can tell he really loved it, as I did. Thank you, Andy.
