A murder with no apparent motive, fear and distrust of police, a mix of some questionable characters who want to put a lid on the killing and their connection to the victim - This is the second volume of the New England based mystery series featuring Vermont private investigator Michael Hanlon.
A Cold Morning in Maine, published in 2014, received an impressive enthusiastic response.

In regard to the actual novel, I thought the narrative voice moved inconsistently between restricted and unrestricted narration. Also, the tone of the piece never seemed to settle--is this noir, is this mob/Mafia fiction, is it modern espionage? I'm afraid that, for me, the novel never quite gelled as a result.
