An excellent jumping-on point for new listeners...

Paul McGann's Eighth Doctor starts another phase of his adventures with a brand new companion (Lucie Miller - played by the award-winning Sheridan Smith) and an all-star supporting cast.

Originally broadcast on BBC Radio 7.

'People of Red Rocket Rising, my fellow citizens. Our long night is over. I've been contacted by a benevolent people. They too have known great trials, but they have overcome them and made it their mission to help others do the same. They have offered us refuge and passage to the nearest human worlds. They have the resources, and the patience and compassion, to evacuate every one of us. My fellow citizens, my friends, rescue is at hand!'

I loved the storyline..I've been a doctor who fan for years now and this is classic.

Gloriously fun time.

I wasn't sure where to start with the Big Finish audios (and having not yet seen much of Classic Who), and heard of these as a decent opener. I've never even listened to an audiobook before, so this was an entirely new experience. While yes, I was multitasking through its play, that wasn't due to a lack of compelling material. Very interested to see where this goes next!

My First Doctor Who Audio Didn't Disappoint

It’s was great. The actors were spot on. The background sounds made it all the better.

Overall I don't like Dramatized adaptations as much as a normal book narration, but I thought I would give this a try. It made it a little confusing because when you would jump from one scene to the other there was nobody telling you where you were and you had to listen for a bit before you realized what characters were back in play. This was compounded by the doctor's companion sounding a bit like the main protagonist to me and it led to more confusion that I would like. Another hit against this book was that the only real classic who I have watched was with Tom Baker and Colin Baker, so McGann didn't really have any special spot in my heart. The final strike to this book was the 1 hour run time, so it is defiantly not worth the cost of a credit, and if you don't find it on sale for less that $4 I don't think it would be worth it.

Overall, not worth it. I recognize that my dislike of Dramatized audiobooks and my unfamiliarity with McGann are both issues for me and maybe not someone else. Still, this just wasn't impressive and I won't be getting the next one.

Just didn't pull me in.
