The first and only author to win back-to-back Edgars for Best Novel. Every book a New York Times bestseller. After five years, John Hart is back.

Since his debut bestseller, The King of Lies, reviewers across the country have heaped praise on John Hart, comparing his writing to that of Pat Conroy, Cormac McCarthy and Scott Turow. Each novel has taken Hart higher on the New York Times Bestseller list as his masterful writing and assured evocation of place have won readers around the world and earned history's only consecutive Edgar Awards for Best Novel with Down River and The Last Child. Now, Hart delivers his most powerful story yet.
Imagine:

A boy with a gun waits for the man who killed his mother.

A troubled detective confronts her past in the aftermath of a brutal shooting.

After thirteen years in prison, a good cop walks free as deep in the forest, on the altar of an abandoned church, a body cools in pale linen…

This is a town on the brink.

This is Redemption Road.

Brimming with tension, secrets, and betrayal, Redemption Road proves again that John Hart is a master of the literary thriller.

Riveting story

I want to say this is a John Grisham novel that has undertones of the Shawshank Redemption, but that doesn't scratch the surface of this book. The writing is spectacular and the characters complex. The story is written in such a way where you are not left wanting. Everything is addressed, not rushed or glossed over, and you're left satisfied in the end. Ihave to say this is one of the best books I've ever read. I also have to mention the narration - it added an dimension to the story where I could see the characters. This is one of the best audiobooks I've ever experienced.

Wonderfully Complex

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely. The story is complex, nuanced and, at times, heartbreaking. The narration reminds me a lot of Will Patton who is so wonderful with the James Lee Burke books. Scott Shepherd's style is perfect for John Hart's complex plot. This is a perfect example of the right narrator for the right book.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Liz is the protagonist and my favorite character. She has defied her upbringing and has developed a complex ethical structure for her life. This is tested to the limits of her physical and emotional being.

Which scene was your favorite?

The end of the book is very satisfying as well as moving. To elaborate would be to ruin the end of the book for you so I will not.

There is an interview with the author at the end and I thoroughly enjoyed that as well. I advise you to listen to it.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Parts of this book are difficult to listen to as they involve people who mistreat others for their own benefit. There are very few laughs in this book and more than a few tears but you will be rewarded by characters who cannot be easily forgotten.

The best! Great story and great narration

John Hart knows how to write. He sees the inner soul of his characters and brings them to life for us to see and feel. Lovely writing, although somewhat predicable story. Pleasure to listen to.

Lush, complex writing brings this a notch above

I usually enjoy John Harts books and looked forward to this one. I was very disappointed. The characters were false and one demential and I found it hard to care about any of them. The story could have been excellent but it dragged on and on and was ruined by too many diversions. Sorry but this one wasn't worth the credit or the time.

Disappointing
