When a moose is found on a portion of desolate African coastline, numerous people race to either help or hinder his plight. Befriended by a young local boy who vows to be the moose's friend and protector, the pair set off on an accidental adventure across the African wilderness. Along the way they befriend and/or evade such colorful characters as a rouge television news helicopter pilot, an eccentric, blood-thirsty billionaire, a brilliant mathematician-turned-pirate captain, a pair of opportunistic exotic medicine dealers, a disguised professional baseball player and his duped wife, and an assortment of concerned passengers and crew aboard an ill-fated cruise ship. Through a great deal of misunderstanding and mistiming, the fate of the poor moose is fought for on a stretch of seashore mistakenly referred to as The Gelatin Coast.

Loved loved loved this book! The narration was really well done. The characters are believable and the action not so much but I didn't care. The writing style reminds me of Christopher Moore.
I liked the relationship that builds amongst different - very different - characters. It has a bit of a comic book feel to it - in a good way. The humor is meant to be over-the-top and it is! Talk about a fun ride!
I was gifted this wonderful book in exchange for an honest review.

This book is a blast from 'cover to cover'

This book is simply too much fun! There are culture misinterpretations, language misinterpretation, planned and inadvertent silliness. The author is excellent at invoking visualization of incidents as well as individuals and settings. Although it moves along at a rapid pace, there is no difficulty in keeping up and laughing away any current negative perception of reality. If you have ever seen a french braid, with it's way of adding more into each plait as it comes into being, you have a visual on the way that this book moves ever onward, getting better and funnier as it moves along. I'm not into reviews giving recaps or spoilers, but that would be a daunting task for one who did choose to do so. Simply be aware that the publisher's blurb is simply a teaser from the beginning of the book and that it only continues merrily from there.
I had the audio version, and Joel Froomkin performed it magnificently!

If you give a moose a muffin, he will want a glass of milk. Only in this book, the moose gets on an airplane and flies to Africa where he eventually crosses paths with a helicopter pilot, pirates and a baseball player. If you loved "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," you'll love this.

Any additional comments?

If you've ever seen the movie "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" then you'll know the joy that awaits you with this listen!!

This is a very fun listen but at it's core, the joy is in the narration. The different voices that this narrator were able to convey, nay convincingly convey, were astounding. Can an audio book be considered a tour de force?! If so, bravo, bravo, bravo!!!

Everything that's good about an audio book!
