Navy SEAL sniper instructor Eric Davis applies his discipline techniques to raising his son in this incredible audiobook, Raising Men: Lessons Navy SEALs Learned from Their Training and Taught to Their Sons.

After Eric Davis spent over sixteen years in the military, including a decade in the SEAL teams, his family was more than used to his absence on deployments and secret missions that could obscure his whereabouts for months at a time. Without a father figure in his own life since the age of fifteen, Eric was desperate to maintain the bonds he'd fought so hard to forge when his children were young--particularly with his son, Jason, because he knew how difficult it was to face the challenge of becoming a man on one's own. Unfortunately Eric learned the hard way that quality time doesn't always show up in quantity time.

Facebook, television, phones, video games, school, jobs, friends--they all got in the way of a real, meaningful father-son relationship. It was time to take action.

As a SEAL, Eric learned to innovate and push boundaries, allowing him to function at levels beyond what was expected, comfortable, ordinary, and even imaginable, and he knew that as a father he needed to do the same with his son. Meeting extreme with extreme was the only answer.

Using a unique blend of discipline, leadership, adventure, and grace, Eric and his SEAL brothers will teach you how to connect and reconnect with your sons and learn how to raise real men--the Navy SEAL way.

Absolutely! Such straight forward, compassionate, principled advise to living a good life, and being the best parent you can be.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Eric!
Humble beginnings and the making of a modern MAN.

What does Peter Berkrot bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I actually didn't like Peter's country dialect... knowing that Eric was raised in southern California.
Other than that, great performance.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Made me THINK about how I interact with my kids.

Any additional comments?

Certainly tailored for the male audience, but life lessons for everyone.

It doesn't matter how old your son is - this book is for you. Not only has it helped me be a better father, these principals taught me to be a better husband and even saved my marriage.

I agree with most of the reviewers that the narration makes it difficult to get through. If you don’t want to listen to someone read a book like you are a Navy Seal being debriefed, get the hard copy or eBook. That said, I think the narrator did what he was intended to do and with that in mind, he did a good job. What can I say - that kind of cadence isn’t for everyone or MOST everyone.

Content was solid. I agree some of the stories felt repetitive (they weren’t) but Seal Training is in itself repetitive and you get the feel of that in the author’s style of story-telling. There was a point where I was like, I wish there was an outline or flowchart for this information. But nothing worth getting to was gotten to the east way.

All in all - I will probably get the hard copy to use as a reference to some of the details that got lost in the “art.” He has great points but

I am going to give it a break

the material in the book was fantastic, however the narrator's voice was off putting and difficult to listen to.
