Zombies have been a potent cultural force for decades. Something about the concept of a ragtag crew of survivors facing off against endless masses of shuffling brain-munchers really seems to speak to people! There are hundreds, if not thousands, of zombie-themed stories out there. But which ones are the very best? And which zombie audiobooks will have you double-checking the locks and sleeping with a baseball bat next to your bed?

When I first started the series I was thinking what the heck all I do is listen to space operas and James Patterson books. Then I got into this book the sheer military prowess captivated me not only was it realistic science fiction. It was downright hard-core military. These authors got military doctrine down. They even didn't screw up the Navy doctrine. Everything was precise down to the letter. This prequel is no different I cannot wait for them to finish the story however but I appreciate this prequel perfect perfect perfect. I recommend anybody who loves sheer military doctrine along with a good solid storyline to do this series. You will not put it down, you will not stop listening to it. All you will be able to do is bite your nails and wait for the next book to come out because this is the most exciting storyline I have ever listen to in the last three years. Thank you Mr. Fuchs and thank you for all that you do for us military guys! PHOORAH!

The stakes are high as fuck...People die, heroes die.. It's fucking awesome! Awesome characters, great writing.

Best of them all!

8.5 provided a great side story to further the main storyline. I recommend reading 0.5 and 8.5 together just after 8, if you've already begun the series sans 0.5. One downside, which was expected, was that the side story was slower than the main. Kind of on par with the pace 7 and 8 were reaching as the direct action died down. There was still quite a bit of action, but it was more a story of sustainment that urban survival. It definitely brought together a missing piece of the puzzle, the questions about Patient Zero, from the main line.

And, as always, R.C. Bray did an awesome job narrating! Have listened to 14 of his book narrations (The Martian, The Fear Saga, and these) and can't wait for book 9, book 10, and to start the Mountain Man series next! No equal!

Great addition, albeit a little slower
