Dark. As you might expect from Hugo, but, also, and, NOT your Disneyfied version… don’t read a synopsis if you want any kind of surprise. Be ready to look up some archaic terms, and buckle your belts for some low down, dirty, humanity. Totally worth the time, The recording has its funny parts where you hear the background noise surrounding the narrator, but not as bad as the cough in the middle of Les Misérables. If we made these stories the standard, how sweet life *might* seem in comparison. Thank the romantics for quotidian quandaries, and daily dissatisfactions… hélas, that’s for a different review.

I had read the book years ago and would like to hear it now. It’s a great book a great story, but what I was not expecting was such fantastic narrative from M. Voltz
