Exceptional in all aspects. A good listen. Lived next to Carnton Plantation and story is a good representation of Carrie McGavock and the plantation.

DNF for me

I started this, then quit. A month or so later, I tried again. I WANTED to engage with these characters but I found I just didn't care about them. So it's a miss for me..

Rich, layered historical fiction, beautifully shared

Rich and unflinching historical detail; gorgeous description of time and place. You will be captured by the narrative and by the moving and engaging voice work by the readers.

I love this book. After reading it, we traveled to Carnton to see this place. It was amazing!

Absolutely Amazing

I usually listen while I'm cleaning or something similar, but for the last couple of chapters, I had to sit.
This story gripped me within the first couple of chapters. It made me angry, sad, and joyful. To me, that is what makes an excellent book. The voice actors did a fantastic job bringing the book to life in my imagination, feeling the emotions in their voices.
Highly recommended!
