In March 1882, when John Watson is invited to Edinburgh to visit his cousin, the eminent Dr. Patrick Watson, he convinces Holmes to accompany him on what he believes will be a relaxing holiday. But where Sherlock Holmes tends to go, then surely a crime must be detected. What begins as a chance encounter of a seemingly simple mystery at an Edinburgh home soon takes Holmes and Watson into conflict with the Edinburgh Police, an investigation involving murder and corruption, and crossing paths with the local populace including Dr. Joseph Bell. As Holmes works more closely with a young Edinburgh constable on the case, it causes Watson to question not only his own position, but his very relationship with Sherlock Holmes.

Good story

Dr John Watson is traveling to Edinburgh to visit his cousin and Sherlock Holmes is accompanying him and planning a holiday. But, Holmes cannot go anywhere without some sort of adventure that requires his unique deductive skills. Engaging story and good mystery. The narration was excellent.

Better than expected!

I was pleasantly surprised that this pastiche offered an interesting plot in the early days of Holmes and Watson. I recommend this as it’s over 4 hours but keeps the listeners attention and entertains !

Excellent Sherlock Holmes pastiche

Anyone who has the enjoyed Arthur Conan Doyle's original Sherlock Holmes stories (often called the Canon) usually long for more. Countless writers have attempted to emulate Doyle's style. Many succeed, others do not. David Wilson falls into the "succeed" column. Well read by the excellent narrator David Bufton, this book is entertaining, captures the mood of the time, and provides a rare glimpse into the early years of the Holmes & Watson collaboration. I highly recommend this very entertaining book.

Great Story, poor sound engineering

The book itself is an excellent pastiche. This presentation, however, is fatally marred by substandard engineering. The narrator is fine, but his efforts for naught as it sounds as though he is declaiming from the bottom of a bucket. To further annoy the listener, a perpetual, albeit subtle electronic beeping that is as wearing as it is nervewracking is detectable throughout. This audio book should be remastered immediately.

Doctor Watson and Sherlock Homes visit Patrick Watson in Edinburgh. To entertain the duo, Patrick suggests visiting a haunted house, that belongs to a patient.
