Patrick Hoffman burst onto the crime fiction scene with The White Van, a bank heist thriller set in the back streets of San Francisco and a finalist for the CWA Ian Fleming Steel Dagger Award. Now he returns with his second novel, Every Man a Menace, the inside story of a ruthless ecstasy-smuggling ring.

San Francisco is about to receive the biggest delivery of MDMA to hit the West Coast in years. Raymond Gaspar, just out of prison, is sent to the city to check in on the increasingly erratic dealer expected to take care of distribution. In Miami, the man responsible for getting the drugs across the Pacific has just met the girl of his dreams - a woman who can't seem to keep her story straight. And thousands of miles away in Bangkok, someone farther up the supply chain is about to make a phone call that will put all their lives at risk. Stretching from the Golden Triangle of Southeast Asia to the Golden Gate of San Francisco, Every Man a Menace offers an unflinching account of the making, moving, and selling of the drug known as Molly - pure happiness sold by the brick, brought to market by bloodshed and betrayal.

An engaging, nerve wracking tale of a Molly ring. As the title says, every single person is bad news. If you needed more than Breaking Bad to convince you that drug dealing is dangerous business, this book should cure you of any aspirations of becoming a drug lord.

Don't go into drug dealing

I thought this book was strange. The story line was a little hard to follow. I liked segments of the book but, not the overall novel. The performance was pretty good.

Interesting.

Wasn't expecting a whole lot from this, but surprised by the twists and depth of the characters. No protagonist or hero in this story though, which made it interesting and different. No one to really root for, but plenty to keep you listening. Good study of the depravity of the drug underworld.

Well crafted thriller

character study of bad guys. didn't really go anywhere. didn't ever really grab my attention. the narrator was so calm that even the action seemed calm.

so so

This seems like a story of how the drug world works told by someone who has never been involved in the drug trade. Several unreal scenarios pop up throughout the book, taking you out of the story.

Unlike most people here, I finished the entire book. admittingly I think it does start to get a little good in the last hour of the book. But for the most part it consist of unreal situations with under developed characters. I feel as if Hoffman chose a terrible way to start the book off and thats what causes most people to be turned off by it. But really they just saved themselves the trouble.

Need Molly to get through the story.
