Publisher's summary

In the year 2280, an alien fleet stole our Earth.

For 50 years they hunted us. For 50 years they enslaved us. For 50 years we lived in fear.

Nothing lasts forever.

They can try to quell us. They can try to break us. They can chase us to the ends of the Earth. They can chase us to the ends of the universe.

We've won our first battle. We've earned our first taste of hope. What was theirs will soon be ours.

We are the rebellion. Our story continues.

Mother of All Cliffhangers!

Weapons of War was a solid follow up to the book one with surprising plot twists, more characters, intense action and suspense, and even a love interest. I love a good Sci-Fi and the Rebellion is well rounded series with excellent world building and character development. The first two books have totally captivated me with their unique plot twists, and characters both the good and bad. Book two was awesome but ends with the mother of all cliffhangers and has me anxiously waiting for the final installment Tides of War to be released in audio.

Some spoilers;
A dying alien race has come to earth in search of a new home. They've invaded, concurred, and decimated the human population. These aliens have captured some humans to use their DNA to splice with their own DNA ,and have successfully cloned a human hybrid of their species so they can survive in the earth's atmosphere without the aid of breathing apparatus. These aliens will stop at nothing to eradicate the rest mankind and make earth their home once and for all.

Miraculously, some humans have survived the invasion and are mainly broken down into two groups. The first, know as the resistance operates in a military capacity fighting a losing battle against an alien force more advanced and invincible. The tides are slowly turning in the humans favor when a rouge alien clone named Ehri aids a small band of humans lead by Donovan who are trying to make it to one of the resistance fortresses with news that will arm the rebellion with knowledge that would give humans a fighting chance.

Another group of humans have escaped earth and live on the Magellan in space and are lead by General St. Martin, also know as the "Old Gator". He is one of my favorite characters, but fights his own inner demons as he tries to lead the men and women under him while dealing with the pain and loss of his wife who was left behind on earth.

The aliens have worked collectively as a whole to ensure their race survives and thrives; however, they are slowly unraveling as members of their race are competing with each other for positions of power.

Overall, a great story and add in Jeff Hays amazing narration talent who can perform a wide cast of characters effortlessly, this is a must listen for any die hard fan of the Sci-Fi genre. Well worth the time and credit!

An exciting continuation to the series

The story moves forward on two fronts, earth-bound and space-bound encounters. It expands on the aliens hierarchical caste system and Darwinian approach for advancement. We also find out more about their technology and motivations for the human cloning program. The battle encounters both on earth and in space are exciting and often have unpredictable outcomes that adds to the heightened interest in the follow-on unfolding of events.

Very much interested in what follows in book 3 after the final unexpected revelation at the end.

Loved it!

I was waiting for this and only as I checked out Jeff's latest had I realised it was out. Why can't there be a follow button for a series, haha :)

Anyway, so yes. This was a really great continuation of the series. We pick back up with both sides of the story, on Earth and in Space.

Donovan and his team are going through some awful conditions and worse situations to get to the resistance that is left. There were some moments here where I cried, it's so extremely well written that we get to know and love the character in book 1 and yet M.R Forbes delves even deeper with them and makes us feel even more! This book totally pulled my heart out.

Gabrielle and the old Gator... just superb characterisation. Though they go through so much as father and son, as a team on the Magellan they pull out no stops to protect and survive.

This was a totally nail-biting audiobook, the fights the action, the love and people lost along the way. A total must listen.

Only grip would be that the ending was just as emotional as the rest of the book! and I was like OMG what the... you can't leave it like that. You just can't.... haha

Awesome narrator and author, I want the next one. Like now!

Getting better

Better than the first book. The superior clone warriors still seem like storm troopers to me. They die easy & cant hit shit despite being physically superior & can see in the dark with super plasma weapons. Probably won't buy the third one. Just killing time until the books I really want to read come out.
