Publisher's summary

When a Victorian scientist propels himself into the year 802,701 AD, he is initially delighted to find that suffering has been replaced by beauty, contentment and peace. Entranced at first by the Eloi, an elfin species descended from man, he soon realises that this beautiful people are simply remnants of a once-great culture - now weak and childishly afraid of the dark. But they have every reason to be afraid: in deep tunnels beneath their paradise lurks another race descended from humanity - the sinister Morlocks. And when the scientist's time machine vanishes, it becomes clear he must search these tunnels, if he is ever to return to his own era.

Great Scifi story! Still relevant

Although it is over a hundred years old, it still reads (listens) as a book that could have been written yesterday. Truly a great book.

best book ever

This was/is one of my favorite books of all time. It's a classic science fiction book. I remember reading it for the first time in high school. And I was hooked for other classics from H.G. Wells, Juels Verne, etc...

And I loved the movie they made it the 60s too. Wish they'd make movies that close to the book nowadays. Unlike the 2001 release with Guy Pierce. That was a bad misinterpretation of a good book.

Beautiful

This is a elegant story of which has a logical pattern to it. Although short, the story is full of relevant issues that can be discussed in this day and age.

Our desired future illuminated

Question:

What happens to humanity when we solve all our problems?

Answer:
The illusion that all our problems are solved.

The reality that there are more to solve and the bleakness that we are no longer poised to solve them given our indiscriminate consumption of the illusion.

A grand lesson from H.G. Wells in a beautifully told story.

Absolutely fantastic

The imagination it would have taken to conceive of such a story when it was originally written is baffling to me. It leaves me feeling more connected with those around me and those who have come and gone and those who are yet to be born. I only wish it had been longer.

Imagination

Proof that there is no limit to the human imagination! (That was my 6th or 7th time being swept away with that story, and this time was my 1st as an audiobook.

An amazing story for the mind and soul.

I've always enjoyed this story, and have found myself coming back to it many times since I read it in middle school. The narrator was nice to listen to, and I will search for more works done by him.

The Time Machine takes you away.

Delightful listen to escape commuting traffic, with ingenious predictions of where we (humankind) are destined to go. The classic story is still a wonderful read.
