Publisher's summary

Celeste has worked hard to establish her freelance blog as a source of accurate crime news for the Baton Rouge area. Being a workaholic, focusing solely on her career, was her choice. Five years ago, she had a life-changing experience in a BDSM club that made it clear she is a submissive, but she believes her past makes embracing that path impossible. Then Sergeant Leland Keller walks into her life. He's the Dom she's always feared and hoped she'd meet, and he recognizes her as what he's been looking for as well. But she fights submission as much as she longs for it.

Leland always thought he was looking for a docile, sweet-natured sub, but the heart wants what it wants. He can tell Celeste is aching for love and surrender. Having served in the military and now as a patrol sergeant in one of Baton Rouge's most dangerous districts, he doesn't shy from a challenge.

His job is to protect and serve. He's not going to let her down.

Good end to series

When you're looking for great BDSM Erotica, Joey W. Hill is the master. Soul Rest is a great end to the series. I loved how the characters in previous books were brought into the story. The story had substance and plays out very well. I really like that the story doesn't follow a "canned" romance/erotica book. I like how the characters are able to grow in their relationship and develop their bond.

A strong woman with even stronger master

I absolutely loved this book. Joey never disappoints me in her writing. Leland and Celesta was just made for each other. There was moments I want to cry and happy the next. Leland was just right type of Dom Celeste needed. Perfect. Run and get this auto book and definitely get the book.

Inconsistent writing

Shouldn’t the reviewers listen to the story before commenting?
This was a lazy effort by Joey Hill. There is way too much meandering introspection, Celeste, the sub, spends a lot of time in her head. The author uses these soliloquies to climb on a soapbox, to explain how BDSM relationships should work, how each one is different and to give Leland, the Dom, underserved praise. The endless mental musings and prolonged descriptions of clothing, rooms and people made the second half feel like a Russian novel that has random sex scenes injected.
In the first half Leland starts off on the wrong foot when he dismisse Celeste’s work, her career, and her abilities. Despite this the two almost immediately enter a D/s dynamic and Leland informs Celeste that if she uses her safe word, she will be put in the penalty box for weeks at a time while he sulks because she’s taken his fun away. There will be no opportunity to slow things down, to talk through her fears because “he knows what she needs”. I guess he is omniscient because they sure didn’t have any conversations before their first serious BDSM scene. He gave her a poisoned safe word but it turned out that didn’t matter much. For their first scene he bound and gagged her, no safe word or sign was possible, remember “HE knows what she needs”. Then, with no knowledge of her experience, her past, possible triggers or fears he proceeds to whip, beat, cane, whip some more and have anal sex with her. Sadism with a slice of non-consensual sex anyone? But he “KNOWS WHAT SHE NEEDS”. What does the masterful Dom do then? He leaves her tied, gagged and alone in a room. Brilliant! He claims he is purging the poisons she is carrying inside as a result of her difficult past. How he knows about her past we never find out because he heaped the abuse, judgements and questionable consent on her before any real conversations happened. If this woman didn’t have PTSD before meeting Leland she would certainly have it afterward.
Of course it’s all good in the end. She falls in love with her Master, it turns out that rape, threats to beat someone to within an inch of their life and spanking for aftercare are effective therapy for damaged submissives, who knew?
