Publisher's summary

Best-selling author Chris Pike brings a fresh voice to the post-apocalyptic genre with another pulse-pounding, harrowing story about survival.

He was a man of quiet faith and determined courage who lived by an unwavering code of honor. He was a firm believer that the good guys would win and the bad guys would lose, although it didn't mean there wouldn't be casualties or injuries in the process of winning. EMP survivor Chris Chandler wasn't one to back away from overwhelming odds, and as of now, the odds weren't stacked in his favor. One way or the other, people were going to get hurt here or killed.

Amanda Hardy and Chris Chandler have been living comfortably at the Double H Ranch where they took sanctuary after the EMP. Deciding it was time to head to Austin, where they both have relatives, they leave the safety of the ranch to embark on a journey filled with unknown perils.

They have meticulously planned for the trip, carrying extra food, ammo, and water, and they think they are prepared for every possible contingency, except for one. Amanda hasn't been completely truthful with Chandler about her past - a past that will have tragic consequences.

Lots of excitement/A lot to think about

Enjoyed meeting Chris's family. Love his family's set-up, plus how the whole neighborhood pulls together to make it. Each of Chris Pike's story give you a lot to think about preparedness and post apocalyptic living. I think the most prevalent thought is that prepper's need to go with their gut in every situation. You will live longer, if you do.

Will the story continue or is this it?

What it the next challenge? Do they get married? Does she leave? Does Cowboy get back home? Does Luke get better timing?

Excellent read

I have read all three books in The EMP Survivor Series and really enjoyed them.
I like to listen and read especially, if the narrator is good. It really makes the story came a live for me. Kevin Piece is my favorite narrator and as usual he did a wonderful job.

I am anxiously awaiting the release of Chris Pike's other 2 books.

Great Book!

This was a great book, and I can't wait for the next in the series. The performance was wonderful, and you could always tell who was talking before the "he said". I would recommend this to anyone who loves these types of books.

An Action Packed Post-Apocalyptic Tale

It's been a fun process to follow Pike's writing from books one until book three. It started strong but has really picked up in Unknown World. Pike knows how to weave a few stories into one without taking away from the overall story arc.

Unknown World's main storyline is Chandler and Amanda traveling across Texas to get to her aunt's ranch. Of course along the way they run into lots of trouble from more than one type of person. I won't ruin who or what happens, but I will tell you that it involved two different 'baddies' that really cranked the action up to 11.

Both Chandler and Amanda are pretty well explained in the first two books, but we are treated to a little more back story on Amanda -- which ends up having a pretty big part of the story. I like reading a book and thinking that I know the characters and then an author can throw in a story you didn't know or didn't expect and it changes everything.

My favorite part of Unknown World came when we are introduced to Chandlers brother and his ability to always pick the wrong moment. I found myself laughing at the parts with his brother, especially in the final "bonus" story.

The narration for Unknown World was done by the Post-Apocalyptic master Kevin Pierce, who, surprise surprise, does a great job. He's narrated the first two books and I'm glad that he was brought back to narrate the third.

Overall, this book was really enjoyable. I could tell that book two was leading up to something, but this wasn't at all what I expected. It had a lot more action and a lot more human connection than the first 2 books. Which really 'matured' the series a bit (don't worry it's not heavy like some post-apocalyptic books can be).

I honestly could have left the series here. I wasn't sure if this was going to be a three book series or more when I started it, but I would be happy with the way it ended. With that being said, I know that Pike is writing the fourth right now that's due out sometime in 2017.

I loved all three books of this series! I will read more of Chris Pike

My favorite genre is Dystopian and this series fits the bill. I liked the detail and reality of descriptions of characters. Survival of one family trying to find each other and the coming together of others into their family. Really loved Buster - read the books to find out who he is. Enjoy!

A+

This series is a little predictable and unrealistic at times though but if you can over look that fact its a great story.

and another girl with a jerk ex-boyfriend

The story is not as violent as some of the post-EMP books. There is plenty of violence, but it's not as massive as in other tales I've read.

Chandler and Amanda head to Austin to reunite her with her aunt she doesn't like and who doesn't care about her. Coincidence: Chandler also lives in Austin so they go to his place first. These girls just haven't made good choices. First Holly's ex-boyfriend is a jerk trying to kill her, and now Amanda's ex wants something from her. It gets a bit predictable and you figure out the "mystery" long before they do. On the way there Amanda proves time and again that she's more sass than brains, and she's very lucky she didn't get Chandler killed.

It's all entertaining and very possible. You just now know that you need to learn to shoot and to stock up on ammo, cuz if it ain't zombies, it's gonna be your desperate neighbors and old boyfriends.

I enjoyed reading the three books even though some of the language is trite (like a kid on Christmas morning), and the situations are predictable. The narration is pretty good, though not stellar. Probably a read-it-once.

The parts that played were great

Section 20 to 36 (the end) DO NOT PLAY. The story I was able to listen to was great, although not really a prepper story. More a story about not trusting people you do not know and have no track record with. Good reminder about being cautious.

When is Audible going to get this fixed? Why does Chris Pike allow his work to have extreme technical difficulty?
