Washington, DC: Twin brothers are found drowned in a Perspex box, one gagged and strapped to a chair. It's the latest in a series of cruel and elaborate murders with two things in common: the killer has left a family history chart at each crime scene, and the victims all have a connection to genealogical sleuth Jefferson Tayte.

Hoping his insight and expertise will help solve the case, the FBI summon Tayte back to the capital. But as he struggles to crack the clues, the killer strikes again - and again. Tayte is known as the best in the business, but this time he's up against a genealogical mastermind who always seems to be one step ahead.

With the clock ticking and the body count rising, Tayte finds himself racked with guilt, his reputation and career in tatters. The killer is running rings around him; is it only a matter of time before he comes for the ultimate target?

This is the sixth book in the Jefferson Tayte Genealogical Mystery series, but can be enjoyed as a stand-alone story.

I cannot say enough about this series! Mysteries aren't my favorite category of books, but I forget that it isn't when reading Steve Robinson's work. This series is based on a genealogist who does charts for clients who tend to need help solving mysteries along the way. The characters are well written and likable (except for the bad guys). The story keeps you guessing, with lots of history, action and adventure thrown in. There is a terrifying serial killer on the loose, who is picking Tate's former clients' family members for his victims, leaving genealogical clues to be solved in time to save the victim. I would say that Simon Vance does an excellent job with the narration, but you already know that if you know who Simon Vance is!

Excellent!

I've enjoyed listening to this series, JT is an affable guy, and maybe that's part of the problem. With this last book there seems to be a lot of carnage without the corresponding angst. More than once the plot seemed to be more contrived to show off genealogy techniques than to save a life. And, more than once, I found myself wondering why on earth they didn't just do the obvious thing. Still, it's a fun read (listen) and I'm sure I'll buy into the next book when it comes out.

Do the obvious thing

I think this is my favorite so far of Jefferson Tayte’s genealogical mysteries series. The author, Steve Robinson keeps things quite busy for JeffersonTayte, aka JT. The beginning of the story it starts out with JT’s fiancé Jean having been missing for three months. He is devastated! Believing that she must be dead, he was on the verge of taking his own life, until his brother stepped in. It was a great addition getting to know his brother and how his relationship with him is developing. And the previous book we found out that he had his fraternal twin that he had never met and they were separated at birth. In spite of being raised by two different families, him and his brother have various traits and reactions to things the same. The villain in the story we have met way back in Book one and Jefferson Tayte believe this man to be the one who killed his good friend. In this book, he finally gets to prove that and avenge his friends murder. Having saved Jean and marrying her, he is ready to embark on a new chapter in his life. I look forward to what ahead.

Adventure & intrigued

This is probably the Best Jefferson Tate mystery yet. I thought the last one couldn't be topped but he did it with this one. Can't wait for the new one coming out in August.

Hard to stop listening!

I've read or listened to all of Steve Robinson's books on genealogical crime and loved them all. This one was no different and even had us looking at the mystery in a new way than usual. I loved my long commute when I listened to the book! Not a dull chapter to be found. Also, The narrator, Simon Vance, has the perfect voice for these books!

Great new book in the series
