A stunning, personal memoir from the astronaut and modern-day hero who spent a record-breaking year aboard the International Space Station—a message of hope for the future that will inspire for generations to come.

The veteran of four spaceflights and the American record holder for consecutive days spent in space, Scott Kelly has experienced things very few have. Now, he takes us inside a sphere utterly hostile to human life. He describes navigating the extreme challenge of long-term spaceflight, both life-threatening and mundane: the devastating effects on the body; the isolation from everyone he loves and the comforts of Earth; the catastrophic risks of colliding with space junk; and the still more haunting threat of being unable to help should tragedy strike at home--an agonizing situation Kelly faced when, on a previous mission, his twin brother's wife, American Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, was shot while he still had two months in space.

Kelly's humanity, compassion, humor, and determination resonate throughout, as he recalls his rough-and-tumble New Jersey childhood and the youthful inspiration that sparked his astounding career, and as he makes clear his belief that Mars will be the next, ultimately challenging, step in spaceflight.

In Endurance, we see the triumph of the human imagination, the strength of the human will, and the infinite wonder of the galaxy.

I absolutely loved this book. Scott Kelly describes every aspect of his experiences before, during and after his year in space. If you are curious about what space is like, coming back from space, the ISS, feelings, smells, looks, jobs done in space and everything that goes into doing tasks and jobs, this book will be sure to answer every question you have. very well written, great narration by the author, I wish it wasn't over.

This was a wonderful carside seat of what it was like to be in space. Read by the astronaut Scott Kelly it’s one of the best audiobooks I’ve heard in my life, and completely captured the feel, adventure, and hardships of life and space travel.

Amazing Read by Scott Kelly

Kelly's telling of both his year in space and the life that led him to those moments is as insightful as it is inspiring. The stories he tells shows that astronauts are just normal humans who push themselves to the highest of heights.

Amazing Story Grounded in a Life of Experiences

Of the astronaut autobiographies, this book went into more depth than the others I've listened to, more depth into the astronaut career and certainly more depth into his career before being selected as an astronaut candidate than the other autobiographies. If you want to know what a day was like in an astronaut's life, so far that I've seen, this one does it best.

The reading is a little dry, and there's seemingly missing bits. For example, I don't think think he said anything about the servicing activities in the Hubble servicing flight except for the launch and the landing.

The story seems to take two parallel threads but they start at different times in Kelly's life, and it seemed a little bit confusing jumping back or forth in time for each successive chapter.

All in all, I felt this was informative and interesting, if you're looking for an astronaut's life story this is well worth it.

Interesting story by an interesting man

Any additional comments?

A great story! I had been wanting to know more about the International Space Station. This audiobook delivered. I, being an engineer and amateur astronomer, would have enjoyed more technical information, but then the range of listeners and readers would probably be reduced. The human story, however, does compensate.

Scott, you're an inspiration to determination and perseverance. Here's an idea to bring together two great human endeavors: Go to Grytviken in the South Atlantic Ocean and lay flowers at Sir Ernest Shackleton's grave.

A great way to learn about ISS
