About this listen

Winner of the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work/Biography.

In Across That Bridge, Congressman John Lewis draws from his experience as a prominent leader of the civil rights movement to offer timeless wisdom, poignant recollections, and powerful principles for anyone interested in challenging injustices and inspiring real change toward a freer, more peaceful society. The civil rights movement gave rise to the protest culture we know today, and the experiences of leaders like Congressman Lewis, a close confidant to Martin Luther King, Jr., have never been more relevant. Despite more than 40 arrests, physical attacks, and serious injuries, John Lewis has remained a devoted advocate of the discipline and philosophy of nonviolence. Now, in an era in which the protest culture he helped forge has resurfaced as a force for change, Lewis' insights have never been more relevant. In this heartfelt book, Lewis explores the contributions that each generation must make to achieve change.

Inspiration...Positivity...Just what I needed.

Honestly, the only thing that would have made it better is if John Lewis would've performed it himself. Though Keith David was fantastic! we are so blessed to reflect on this work after Lewis' passing. Highly recommended. Just what I needed.

Should be required reading for high school students

Lewis was such an incredible force in furthering racial equality that students should know of his lifelong non-violent push for equal rights for all. If students are required to recite the Pledge of Allegiance, they should honor the final words spoken in that recitation and strive to achieve them.

Inspiring

Wow he went through a lot. He exemplifies how having strong faith, belief in God can help one to overcome obstacles in life and have the ability to forgive someone who beat you so badly. I thank him and all the others who fought so that I have the freedom that I have today. Definitely recommend this listen.

Eye opener to those who choose to stay blind

Congressman John Lewis report’s of fighting injustice with peace and harmony to train the minds of the privileged and entitled that violence against racism will only make the plead for equality to never prosper. For freedom we must remain above ignorance and fear of a people who are different.

a bit preachy

honestly I was really looking forward to the wisdom of this book, but it felt like a 4 hour church sermon with a lot of cliches and metaphors and very few key examples and solutions.
