Within the Sanctuary of Wings is the conclusion to Marie Brennan's thrilling Lady Trent Memoirs.

After nearly five decades (and, indeed, the same number of volumes), one might think they were well acquainted with Lady Isabella Trent - dragon naturalist, scandalous explorer, and perhaps as infamous for her company and feats of daring as she is famous for her discoveries and additions to the scientific field.

And yet - after her initial adventure in the mountains of Vystrana and her exploits in the depths of war-torn Eriga, to the high seas aboard the Basilisk and then to the inhospitable deserts of Akhia - Lady Trent has captivated hearts along with fierce minds. This concluding volume will finally reveal the truths behind her most notorious adventure - scaling the tallest peak in the world, buried behind the territory of Scirland's enemies - and what she discovered there, Within the Sanctuary of Wings.

This series has a magical combination of historical research, romance, adventure, danger, politics (however unwelcome that is to Lady Trent), and a keen intellectual mind that has enough personality to keep me engaged for hours.

This series has shot to the top of my recommended reading list, and for good reason. It’s a pity there’s only 5 books in the series.

A fantastic conclusion to Lady Trent’s memoirs

I enjoyed it fully and I am sad that this was the ending book. But all things must come to an end

As good as the whole series.

I'm sad this story has come to an end. Though I know there is one more volume (a tangential sequel), I'm sad to leave the world of Lady Trent and the Dragons! I do hope the author gives us more in this world soon! It is so well crafted and believable... I'd love to explore it more. :)

Fantastic ending, to a fascinating story!

I’m seriously impressed with Brennan’s ability to craft side characters that have personalities, ambitions, and lives. It really feels like these are real people existing in a world rather than characters crafted in service of a narrative.
I know this is meant to be a grand finale to a fantastic series, but this story felt a little too traditionally structured to read like a memoir at times. Elements that were introduced and randomly dropped (like real life) are gone in this installment, every question the reader cares about is left completely answered (rather than allowing Lady Trent’s thesis of “there’s more to discover” to be felt), and the three characters we meet in the sanctuary are the three we stick with into the climax, which I found a bit contrived. Overall, though, what a fantastic way to end the series!

Seriously impressive!

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK!
Marie Brennan did not disappoint with this final book in the series. I didn't get even close to predicting her final discovery. Once I read the plot twist I had to stop reading and just absorb it. It was probably the happiest I have been all year reading this book! I am sad to see this story come to a close, but Brennan couldn't have written a better ending! This is definitely my best book of the year.

THE BEST ENDING TO A SERIES EVER
