Living Out the Word Made Flesh

“Sixty years ago I found myself distracted,” Eugene Peterson wrote. “A chasm had developed between the way I was preaching from the pulpit and my deepest convictions on what it meant to be a pastor.”

And so began Peterson’s journey to live and teach a life of congruencecongruence between preaching and living, between what we do and the way we do it, between what is written in Scripture and how we live out that truth.

Nothing captures the biblical foundation for this journey better than Peterson’s teachings over his twenty-nine years as a pastor. As Kingfishers Catch Fire offers a never-before-published collection of these teachings to anyone longing for a richer, truer spirituality.

Peterson’s strikingly beautiful prose and deeply grounded insights usher us into a new understanding of how to live out the good news of the Word made flesh.

This is one man’s compelling quest to discover not only how to be a pastor but how to be a human being.

I have been a pastor for ten years and following the Lord, with greater and lesser success, for thirty (ALL of the glory is his alone). My purpose in even mentioning this is to aid in making my point: regardless of where your walk is with Jesus, this will feed, nourish and refresh your weary bones.
Thanks to the author, the narrator and everyone involved in bringing this to my soul. God bless you.

If you want a grand journey through the scriptures with a pastor who has been preaching it with integrity and authority for years, be sure to read As Kingfishers Catch Fire. I listened to one sermon a day and I wish there was much more!! This is an opportunity to listen to theologically sound and practically grounded teaching from God's word. In today's world we have a lot of "entertainment preaching". Eugene Peterson bypasses such flashy communication by offering solid content and practical insight. If you like reading Eugene's books, you will treasure this one. Take it slow... I recommend listening one sermon a day so that it sinks in to the deepest part of your mind and life. I would also recommend this for groups that are committed to a "house church" or home study groups. Each message is approximately 20 minutes and sets the stage for building a solid fellowship with God's word at the center of your community.

Wonderful, biblical, spiritual, and pastoral. I'm very familiar with Eugene Peterson's work, this last one watered my eyes. I have both read it, and listened to it once. And I'm not done. What a blessing!
