Thirteenth-century Bohemia is a dangerous place for a girl, especially one as odd as Mouse, born with unnatural senses and an uncanny intellect. Some call her a witch. Others call her an angel. Even Mouse doesn't know who - or what - she is. But she means to find out.

When young King Ottakar shows up at the Abbey wounded by a traitor's arrow, Mouse breaks church law to save him and then agrees to accompany him back to Prague as his personal healer. Caught in the undertow of court politics at the castle, Ottakar and Mouse find themselves drawn to each other as they work to uncover the threat against him and to unravel the mystery of her past. But when Mouse's unusual gifts give rise to a violence and strength that surprise everyone - especially herself - she is forced to ask herself: Will she be prepared for the future that awaits her?

A heart-thumping, highly original tale in the vein of Elizabeth Kostova's The Historian, Bohemian Gospel heralds the arrival of a fresh new voice for historical fiction.

This book is very well written. The story flows well, and most of the typical clichés were avoided. I can’t wait to listen to the next one in the series.

Great story!

After reading the synopsis I thought this was going to be a historical fiction with some mysticism. *spoilers* creepy demon children things were introduced a few chapters in to the book. Then the witchcraft to get rid of them began and the (I assume) sacrifice of a goat. I don’t know what happens next because that’s where I DNFd. This book is more paranormal, horror, fantasy, than it is historical fiction. Reader beware, if demons aren’t your thing I suggest finding a different medieval book to read. I’m disappointed because I really tried to power through the creepiness for the historical aspect but I’m a wuss and demons are at the top of my I don’t want to read about list. I don’t want to give the book a 1 star just because I didn’t personally like it, but if we were rating how well an audible synopsis describes a book, it’s a negative 1 star.

More demonic than expected

This is a review of the series. Started book 1 April 16, finished book 3 April 23.

So good!!! Read this series! I have so much to say and no idea how to say it.

This book feels like those shows that suck you in for an entire weekend; Wheel of Time, Witcher I'm looking at you.

It is the classic story of good verses evil. The series contains a good deal of religious writing and imagery. Dana Chamblee Carpenter gives beautiful details of the religious items, buildings and locations. It was presented like religious art history and not religion class; I really appreciate that, I love religious art and architecture because of it's beauty. I even added a few new travel destinations.

The writing is superb, Carpenter does an amazing job of setting the scene. More than once I had to take deep breath and remind my self I wasn't actually in the often scary small space.

Though I did not cry; if you are prone to, you will. It's worth it (without spoilers) read it anyway, just avoid crowded areas. If you survived Game of Thrones you can handle this.

A must read - when you have uninterrupted time.

I really like how the author incorporated a lot of nonfiction aspects to the book

Where does Bohemian Gospel rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I have not enjoyed reading a book as much as Bohemian Gospel! I am so very happy it is on Audible now. The story is engaging, the history is engaging! I looked forward to the second book in the series and was not disappointed. Can't wait for the release on audible!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Mouse is my favorite, of course. Her story is incredible. She is heroic and a solid character.

Any additional comments?

I hope this story continues and continues! Thank you Audible!
