Theresa Jennings strayed from the path of propriety as a younger woman, though now she'll do anything to secure her child's eventual acceptance on the fringes of polite society. Theresa will even make peace with the titled brother who turned his back on her when she needed him most.

Matthew Belmont is a widower who's been lonely too long. He sees Theresa as a woman paying far too high a price for mistakes long past, and as a lady given too little credit for turning her life around. Theresa is enthralled by Matthew's combination of honorable intentions and honest passion, but then trouble comes calling, and it's clear somebody wants to ruin any chance Theresa and Matthew have for a happily ever after.

Contains mature themes.

I didn’t read the other’s in the series. I just liked this plot better. I didn’t feel I was missing any any plot points.
I enjoyed the maturity of it. It’s was nice to see full adults acting like full adults. It wasn’t a fast read but that worked for me. Who deserves judgement and who deserves forgiveness gets muddled in responsibly, choices and maturity. Mistakes were made some very big over and over sometimes by the same person sometimes the same mistake over and over by even passing characters normalizing just how complicated all of this is. This the first time I saw mention of the fear of childbirth from the male perspective such a simple sentence that said a whole lot.
It’s thinking and slower like some really great books are and I throughly enjoyed it.

Throughly enjoyed!

What a fun read! From start to finish, we watch the couple fall in love with assurity. I LOVED this couple. Both characters were strong and flawed but leaned on each other through it all. The background mysteries were captivating & intriguing. I didn't guess the outcome of either until the last few chapters.

The narration was spot on this time.

I highly recommend!

Wonderful & so ROMANTIC!

I enjoyed Thomas’s story, but this one was so much better. The plot was well developed (even though I guessed early on who the culprit was). Burrowes’ approach was masterful. On to Axel’s story!

So much better than the first installment!

All the books in the series so far have gentle understanding tolerant men and women that need rescuing. The story is mostly the relationship progressing with a little bit of Danger involved. The love scenes are not detailed or overly sensuous in my opinion. Overall this Story was slow and sweet, romantic with a hint of danger excitement at the end. The narrator was very good.

Slow and sweet

Not as good as the Thomas book but still good. Looking forward to listening to Axel next.
