Elana Black has the power to make herself fictional. But when she decides to start saving all the people in books and TV shows who die just for the sake of advancing the plot, she quickly learns that she's not the only one with her powers. All Elana wants to do is save people. But these others don't want the stories to change, and they'll do everything they can to stop her. If you had the power to change fate...to create a happy ending where there wasn't one before...would you do it if it meant risking your own?

This is the first audio book I have heard Whitton perform on, and she did a phenomenal job. She voiced multiple characters and everyone of them sounded unique and I knew who was speaking each time without confusion. She had a range and energy that put this in par, at least for me, with a lot of audio dramas. I hope she stays on and narrates future books.

The character of Elana herself is someone who is deeply flawed and completely relatable. There is a fun little bit of character there, where it seems like her job would be so much easier if she didn't have friends, but at the same time they only reason she does any of this is because she cares about people. She is anxious at times, but where she really gets into trouble is where she seems to make it her personal mission to make enemies with everyone, something that very much reminds me of Dresden.

Depending on how long this series goes, there are any number of different ways this story could go. The ending of the first already didn't seem to go the way I think most people would have expected, so it will be fun to see what comes next.

A new Dresden Files?

The beginning of a journey to discovering one young woman’s magical abilities under fire. This author is wonderfully creative and offers a new approach to the urban fantasy genre that I’ve never seen explored. Very enjoyable, and the next three novels in the series are available, and every bit as good!

Imaginative tale of magic set in modern times

This took me a few chapters to get into the story. The introduction to Elana as our "hero" was slow and I wasn't quite sure where the story was going, or even if i liked Elana. But eventually i just kept wanting to know more and Elana's quirkiness really grew on me. It was a very different concept of magic and has a rich world that has near endless possibilities. Once i finished it I immediately started the second book because i needed to know what would happen to Elana and her friends. That is usually what I consider a good book, one that pulls me into the story and characters till i need to know what happens next.

P.S. The narrator Whitton A. Frank really nailed Elana's quirky spirit.

Interesting concept and pulls you into the story.
