In December 2001, CIA paramilitary operative Matt Garrett is mysteriously pulled from Pakistan as he closes in for the kill of Al Qaeda senior leadership and is reassigned to a low-profile mission in the Philippines. But as he sifts through the wreckage of a downed U.S. C-130 cargo plane in the tangled jungle, he finds a dead U.S. Special Forces paratrooper who is not supposed to be there. Matt is quickly thrown into a contest of wits and resiliency in the uncharted rainforests of Mindanao.

Manipulated by the secret plans of a powerful quartet of upper-echelon Washington, D.C., defense politicos, who call themselves the Rolling Stones, Matt and his Army captain brother Zach Garrett establish their bona fides as true patriots on the cutting edge of freedom. They struggle for survival against the rising tide of Islamic extremism and the reemergence of the Empire of the Sun in the ever-expanding Global War on Terror.

In the stunning prequel to his award-winning novel Rogue Threat, A. J. Tata creates an uncanny sense of presence on and off the battlefield in Sudden Threat, a novel rife with conspiracy, diplomatic double-talk, betrayal, loyalty, valor and honor.

I love action thrillers and this one has a great storyline. As the writer states at the start of the book he tried to write this with (in my own words) a feel for what really happens in time of war and conflict. So with respect to the multiple storylines that create and fights the conflict this read required my focus to keep things straight. While I do like to listen to stories I can multitask during the times I listen and never lose the story, the audio version of this book is better designed for a long drive or other times when you can stay focused. The characters whose lives are affected during the story… good, bad and ugly …does give cause to reflect on those who truly dedicate their lives to the defense of our great nation.

Great read but with multiple story lines that make you stay focused

Reading the overview provided by the publisher, I was eager to listen to the start of this 4 books series. I was drawn in right from the first pages. The dance between character development, action oriented story line and nations traversed was captivating. The story felt authentic, real and raw. With just enough human soul and love story mixed in.
Well done. As you begin Sudden Threat, I am going to dive in Rogue Threat - Book 2

Gripping

The narrator's females voice sounds like Carol Channing with a head cold. So glad there was no romantic scenes... ick. The author is obviously extremely intelligent and understands the subject matter but I was never pulled into the story.

The narrator's female voice...

An excellent A J Tatta read. Captivating, a book of our heroes, our soldiers! Great!!

This was a weird one for me. It was so cheesy or cliche in parts I alternated between rolling my eyes and bursting out laughing. One reviewer was right... I didn't know how dialogue could be "distracting" but it sometimes was. There'd start to be action, and then it would go off on a tangent conversation and I'd be thinking "aaahhh shut up and get on with it!!!" And the female voices were the worst I've ever heard. They all sounded the same: nasal, whiny, 10 year old girls.
But. I slogged through it all because I had to know what happened!! I couldn't stop. The political part was interesting, and there was something about the plot that kept me coming back for more.

Didn't like it... but I had to know what happened!
