Colin Rourke has lived his entire life knowing he has been hunted by creatures from a world connected to ours by portals. Terrible narration.

The narration was awful. Everything was over emphasized. The story concept is cool, but the execution is so-so. Details are extremly lacking. Descriptions of battles are non-existent.

Good story

Great story, but the reading skips in a few places as if he backed up and corrected a sentence a few times, as well as being a pretty rough voice at times.

motherfucking wraiths on a motherfucking plain

An epically told tale of political power struggles and the battle between good and evil. loved how the main character continued to screw up, but grew and learned from the mistakes that resulted in him being blown up.

Looking Forward To More

When I first began listening I wasn't sure I'd be able to finish. I also knew that if I couldn't listen, I would be picking up the book to read. The narration is interesting but does improve throughout the story. My biggest concern is that the narration is not consistent across listening devices; two different headsets, two speaker systems, and three devices were used to listen to this story. this concern is not a big enough issue to keep me from listening to the rest of the series or other things by this narrator. As for the book. I really enjoyed it. The story is interesting and well developed. I have loved getting to know our main characters and seeing where they will go and who they will become. I'm looking forward to my next listen and hope others enjoy as much as I have.

A fun, fast-paced, demon-slaying adventure!

Child of prophecy, check. Hero with a heart of gold, check. Coming of age story with a hero who can eat thousands of calories a day and still need more? Um, what? Hero who is absolutely ingenious with his magical manipulation, coming up with innovative spell-casting and weapon-making that upends centuries of tradition? Wait, now that's awesome. I'm hooked!

In a world where demons manifest in physical form and gather up humans to drag back through their portals, there is a group of heroes who act as a shield of all that is good. They are the Soulguard, and Colin Rourke is one of the newest members. He's also the son of one of the most powerful Soulguards to ever serve, a that lineage has made him an enemy to the demons, and to people who should be his allies. As he grows in power and confidence, can Colin successfully defend humanity, his friends, and his own life?

I was hooked from the very beginning of this story. Colin is a great protagonist to follow. He's relatable, funny, and he'll do anything to protect the innocent. He's the kind of guy you root for, and that's what I was doing from start to finish! Already looking forward to the next one in the series.

Joshua Daniel Gordon does a great job of keeping the characters different. Male, female, young, old, he has a different voice for them all, which is something I appreciate in a narrator.
