The galaxy is burning. The Emperor's loyal primarchs prepare to do battle with Warmaster Horus and his turncoat Legions on the black sand of Isstvan.

Such dark times herald new and yet more terrible things still to come, and when Astropath Kai Zulane unwittingly learns a secret that threatens to tip the balance of the war, he is forced to flee for his life. Alongside a mysterious band of renegades, he plunges into the deadly underworld of Terra itself, hunted like a criminal by those he once trusted. In the face of betrayal, Kai must decide where his own loyalties lie and whether some truths should be buried forever.

The start of the book was rough at times to get through as it was a lot of setup of characters and setting. Normally I don’t mind this but there were a good chunk of the characters that didn’t feel necessary. The ending was phenomenal and the last quarter of the book was great. Still really enjoyed the whole read regardless

Slow start great finish

Got to be my favorite book in the series so far. Really got you attached to traitors, and made you feel for them. It’s becoming more clear why so many decided to betray the emperor and side with their primarchs. Such a good book. WORTH THE LISTEN!!!!!

Omg that was awesome

Book started very slow but grew more interesting with time. The biggest stand out was the timeline error the author allowed to slip through. My understanding is this was corrected in a later short story, but it did remove the sense from many aspects

Timeline flaw

The narrators voice really gave this book the atmosphere needed where it was necessary, excellent story, amazing deliverance, with very clear annunciation despite different voices.

Amazing as always.

Astropaths and Navigators are more then just radios or compasses for space travel. I liked that we got to see just how valued they are while also getting a glimpse into their life on world. Most stories make these psykers sound like glorified radios or horrors but this story humanized them and to a lesser extent the Astartes as well. This book highlights the interplay between Astartes, Astropaths and to some extent the Navigators outside of spaceships. I really enjoyed that we learned more about the Unity Wars on Terra. Finally the Astartes teamup was amazing and probably my favorite part of this story
