Finding one another again

Alex and West first meet as teens. It is six years before they can begin their story again. Amazing love story about second chances.

The performance was better than I expected. The narrators brought the nuances of this story to reality that left me Geary eyed.

My lord... I am in love with J.A. DeRouen's writing. Wings Over Poppies simply took me away.
Ex-military? Check.
Young adulthood friends? Check.
Second chance at love? CHECK.
Tortured, brooding souls warming up over time? DING DING DING!!!!
My jackpot has been hit.. and it's this freaking book. Every action has meaning, every word the characters utter is painstakingly through through.. Miss DeRouen is a master wordsmith, in my opinion.

Alex and West have been friends in childhood.. nevermind that he is older, and friend with her brother.. Sharing their thoughts, their time and passion for golf.. they get to know each other better.. but he has to leave for the military. Only, the man who returns is not the man that left.
Their fight is a long one, and by far not an easy one.. but it never ever feels like drama for drama's sake. It's thought out, and believable. Absolutely amazing. Writing, characters, story. I cannot WAIT for more of this group of people.

And the audio.. oh my, the audio! Devra Woodward as Alex, and especially her mother?? Lord almighty, absolute perfection!!!! The narrators kicked it out of the park... and brought this story to life, giving it warmth, richness and utter love, palpable through their intonation of Ms. DeRouen's words. Fantastic!!!

You Are My Gift

I am a huge fan of this series and it just keeps getting better and better! Although this is book 2 in the interconnected Over series, it can be read/listened to as a stand alone. I do recommend the previous book, however, because it's awesome and you are introduced to characters that appear in both books.

Devra Woodward and CJ Mission were amazing as Alex and West. Their voices complemented each other and worked well together in this dual narration. Devra's performance was especially incredible! She was the perfect Alex and her narration was so emotional and heartfelt.

Alex and West really put my heart through the ringer! It killed me to see them struggle and fight what was in their hearts. Their connection was so honest and beautiful and was told perfectly in the chapters from the past. To know that it crumbled and continued to deteriorate in the present really ripped my heart out of my chest. I loved that both Alex and West grew through the course of this book. They are not perfect people and mistakes are made, but by recognizing and accepting those mistakes they are finally able to move forward. This book will definitely send you on an emotional journey, but that only makes the destination so much sweeter. You really don't want to miss this incredible second chance romance!

Couldn't love it more!

I seriously had a few things I needed to do this weekend. Thanks to Ms. DeRouen, it looks like they won't be getting done. I'm officially addicted to this series. The characters are fantastic, the storylines have me hooked from the very beginning, and the feels are all there! Did I mention the narration is completely perfect?

There were times I wanted to yell at West and tell him to get it together, but I also fell hard for him. His love and struggle to be deserving of Alex seriously had me swooning. The struggles he was forced to overcome tugged at my heart. And Alex is the perfect kind of heroine! She knew what she wanted and put in the work, but she also refused to be a doormat. Her relationships with her friends, and her devotion to West made me want to be her friend!

Once I started listening, I didn't want to stop, and now that I'm finished I am dying to start on the next one. Who doesn't need to start another book at 1:00 am, right? This is definitely a must read book. I love this group of friends, and I love the way Ms. DeRouen writes them in a way that makes them feel so real.

It's one thing to have a first love. It's an entirely different story to hold onto that first love forever. Unfortunately for Alex's heart, holding onto West was excruciating. She had so many unanswered questions for him. When she finally tracked him down, the truth hurt even more.
The story of Alex and West was one of undying love, overcoming obstacles, and forgiveness. Beautiful to the end.
