Publisher's summary

Out in the Pacific Ocean, there is a war taking place. It is a "warm war", a shoving match between the United States, since World War II the uncontested ruler of the seas, and China, which now possesses the world's largest navy. The Chinese regard the Pacific, and especially the South China Sea, as their ocean, and they're ready to defend it. Each day the heat between the two countries increases as the Chinese try to claim the South China Sea for their own, and the United States insists on asserting freedom of navigation.

Throughout Southern Asia, countries such as Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and South Korea respond with outrage as China turns coral reefs into manmade islands capable of supporting airstrips and then attempts to enforce 12-mile-radius, shoot-down zones. The immediate danger is that the five trillion dollars in international trade that passes through the area will grind to a standstill. The ultimate danger is that the US and China will be drawn into all-out war.

In Crashback, journalist Michael Fabey describes how every year the US is "losing sea". He predicts the next great struggle between military superpowers will play out in the Pacific, and his book, more than any other, is an accurate preview of how that conflict might unfold.

A dose of hard truth not everyone wants to hear

Put down your devises for a few hours and listen to whats going on nothing will impact the world more then what is going on in the South China Sea and with the politicians from East of the world to the West.

You will certainly be convinced of that after you read or listen to this book and its all true, this is not a "prediction" book no this is a book of facts things that have happened as the author noted in the opening pages and most topics you can google for reference.

You do not hear of these things in the American media not really and the situation is absolutely EVERYTHING to China, while Americans are being completely uninformed of the very urgent "warm war" with China this thing is getting scary fast.

You should at the very least understand what has happened and what is happening now with US/China relations (or lack of) and what is going on in the worlds most important economic zone the South China Sea this is a very accessible book well narrated to help guide you though it.

I learned quite a bit.

An outstanding and up-to-date primer on the present day state of affairs between China and United States in the South China Sea. It underscores growing military strength China and serves as a wake up call even to the most strident liberal about the importance of strength and resolve in the face of an expansive Chinese military.

Educational While Very Interesting great narrator

Although Crashback portrayed the Obama administration as softies, it was very educational and interesting -- and sometimes scary -- with great narrating.

Fast paced and it reads like a thriller!

This is one of the best books US-China relations books that I have ever listened to. Finished it in 4 days and will most likely listen to it again in the future. You don't have to be a National Security expert to understand the subjects discussed in the book. On top of that, it is full of amazing stories and testimonies that help you understand the conflict in a more in-depth level. I would recommend this book to everyone who is interested in world affairs.

This book even talks about how China acquired its first aircraft carrier, the Liaoning. I was pleasantly surprised to hear the author talk about this subject. The story behind that acquisition is truly fascinating. It also shows you the lengths China will go to acquire military technology when regular/legal means are not available. Great book!

Must Read

Relevant and essential to understanding current Events in Asia. Fantastic narrator- just clearly not one with a military background. I.e.: “Bowditch”- as in ship’s bow, not bow & arrow.😂 Amazon, get a military guy to read the next version.

Tour of the US Navy

This book is as much or MORE about the state of the US Navy as the South China Sea issues. That said it was accurate and excellent.
